July 2, 2014

GARDENER-WOLDeFollowing a Supreme Court trial, the jury has just returned a verdict against Wolda Gardner [pictured] and Rickai Dickinson, who have both been found guilty of the murder of George Lynch.

Mr Lynch, was shot and killed while standing outside a Midland Heights Crescent, Hamilton Parish home at around 10.30pm on May 5th, 2010.

The jury went out earlier today, and returned the guilty verdict at approximately 6.00pm this evening [July 2], finding both men guilty of premeditated murder and firearm offences.

Both men were silent when the verdict was delivered.

Update 6.37pm: Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro said, “This case was particularly tragic, in that he was an innocent man in the wrong place at the wrong time, and he lost his life as a result of that. These two men will spend a significant amount of time in prison in the years going ahead…”

  5. Abolish the Regiment says:

Those that want conscription to be done away with should use the likes of Wolda Gardner and a few others as reasons why we should not have conscription. Wolda Gardner was in the same recruit camp that I was learning about firearms. There are a number of other people that were in my recruit camp that are also convicted of gang related crimes and drug crimes. There is even one that has been murdered. Maybe this can be used as a wake up call against conscription.

    • Derek A. G. Jones says:

Maybe a better way to handle things is not let anyone who has a criminal record or is a member of a gang not be allowed to join the Regiment. Then again if someone is trying to escape a gang the Regiment could be a good option. As long as people are upfront about their intentions of course.

    • haha says:

Ya because you can’t go away and learn how to do it as well. You sound dumb…..SIP Georgie!

  6. Raw Onion says:

To bad we no longer have a stronger deterrent to murder crimes. This deterrent has a 0 recidivism rate.

    • Samuel L. Jackson says:

We only need to deter the criminals from committing the crime again. Execute murderers, rapists and child molesters. 0 recidivism guaranteed.

  7. yamon says:

Yeah right. “Significant”? So 5 years? Bermuda justice system needs to give each life without possibility of parole.

  14. MAKE MY DAY says:

We need to bring-back *Capital Punishment* for premeditated murders – period!!!

    • Raymond Ray says:

Yes I agree, that would be appropriate; but the British Laws has done away with capital punishment sometime back…Bermuda is still a British Colony and has to abide by British Laws.

  15. HEY DIS BIE HERE says:

      • Fruity says:

Doubt that but hey, I am not taking a side; just my opinion of knowing him. I too have heard what was actually said & done in court but its not my ruling or call to judge. I said my piece and that is all.

  18. Fruity says:

Sorry also for the Lynch family.

  19. NOK says:

Good Bermuda Police service and to the witnesses.

  20. Bermudian Man says:

Two JOKERS if you ask me… It’s amazing how individuals with no goals, ambition, self-worth, self-respect, or general knowledge of how the world operates can have the mental capacity to determine when another human beings life is to end. If it was up to me the convicted should be made aware of their stupidity everyday for the rest of their human existence in this earth.

  21. Mr. Speaker says:

Way to many murder cases in Bermuda we need Capital punishment for those that are found guilty of murder. It will save Bermuda money on housing killers up west gate.

    • Fruity says:

We need a better system to run as well not just a toss away system; there is a lot that these cases entail.

  22. If there is anyone out there that knows the real truth to what happen on that fatal night, then they should come foward and speak out, the cards were stack against them from the beginning, we must think about all the family members here, these two man also have family and they too are feeling the pain of what’s happen,I to believe that there are others involved that are either paid to keep quiet or fearful for the lives and their families lives. And if indeed they done this to this innocent man they’ll have to live with it everyday for the rest of their natural life weither behind bars or someday walking the same earth that we all are. And I agree that Rickai was truly a pawn in this whole matter. The BPS still have a lot to look into, let’s remember there are hundreds and hundreds of innocent people locked up for crimes that they did not do and only now with all the DNA and modern technology are the finding out and freeing them, I hope that this is not one of the cases that we Mr. And Mrs Bermuda will read about later. Let’s look back at The Rebecca Middleton case, jump to cut a deal with the real killer and almost sent a young man to jail for life, only later to find out the truth, So Bermuda take it easy on your COMMENTS, like I said both of theses men have FAMILIES who to love them just like the victim has, and the families should not have to bear the blunt of all theses comments, think before you type……..
God Bless all the families involved here.

  23. I totally agree with real Bermudian there is still a lot to know of this case, we are always ready to see things for what they seem to be and not what they really are, it supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, but here in Bermuda it is the opposite, the minute they are picked up questioned and arrested we assume they are quilty without all the facts and when a jury is selected their minds are pretty much made up and a lot of people everyday people don’t understand a lot of the evidence that is put to them, don’t take this the wrong way,but if these to men murdered Mr.Lynch then they must do the full time for their crime not 25 years and get out for good behavior serve the rest of their lives in jail in that 10×10 cell. But I hope and pray that all was done in this case to prove without a doubt that these two men did this, cause like real Bermudian said there are a lot of innocent people locked up for all the so called evidence that the courts had against them and found out years later that they we’re innocent men and women. Let’s bring some peace and harmony back to Bermuda.

  24. bermuda says:

Free kai he did not do anything wrong u have the wrong guy

  25. Justice! says:

    bermuda,

If kai is the wrong guy, then who is the right guy? Take up his cause and go to the authorities who are truly prepared to LISTEN and DO with evidence/proof/facts.

  26. families bda says:

you cannot get a fair trial in Bda,when these situations happen names and pictures are over media.People have them guilty.
When in court judge tells jurors not to discuss or read newspapers, dam that’s after the fact that they read it a year before,so you cannot get a fair trial.

and furthermore, most statements given could be true, but majority are not,and innocent people go to prison.

But I feel for all families that are going through this. Its a nightmare when your family members are facing court procedures, you can turn grey headed over night.
