Premier To Attend OT Meeting In Cayman Islands

The Cabinet Office advised today that Premier Michael Dunkley will travel to the Cayman Islands tomorrow [July 15] to participate in the UK Overseas Territories [OT] Heads of Government Pre-Joint Ministerial Council Meeting, which is set to take place from July 16 – 17.

Areas of focus at this year’s meeting centre on security, economic development and general discussion regarding the relationship between OTs and the UK.

This week’s meeting is a precursor for the upcoming Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council meetings to be hosted by the UK Government in December.

Premier Dunkley said today, “This will be my first opportunity as Premier to meet our fellow OT leaders. And I welcome the opportunity to share in discussions with them about critical matters facing each of our Countries in preparation for December.”

The Premier, who returns to the Island on Thursday, will be accompanied by the Secretary to the Cabinet, Dr. Derrick Binns.

    In this day and age, why doesn’t government hold video conferences for overseas meetings? Is a physical presence really necessary?

    Even with tech as it is, personal one to one, face to face meetings are vital to humans. That is why it is done in person.
