July 22, 2014

Validus Holdings Ltd has revealed that it will be donating $20,000 and sponsoring three volunteers from the Beyond Rugby Bermuda program to participate in Bermuda Overseas Mission’s [BOM] volunteer trip to Cochabamba, Bolivia to build houses in partnership with Habitat for Humanity.

This is the third year that Validus has sponsored BOM’s annual volunteer trip.

A spokesperson said, “Validus’ sponsorship will support some of the student volunteers from the BOM contingent, including students from Beyond Rugby. These students will partner with other volunteers from around the world to work together to build simple, functional houses for needy local families in Cochabamba. In 28 years, Habitat for Humanity Bolivia has completed 11,000 housing solutions benefiting 50,000 people.”

Kean Driscoll, CEO of Validus Reinsurance Ltd, said, “Validus is thrilled to support and sponsor the efforts of Bermuda Overseas Mission and its volunteer trip to Bolivia this year.

“Our close relationship with Bermuda Overseas Mission demonstrates the alignment between our two organizations and the commitment we both share in providing the people of Bermuda a chance to make a difference around the world and constructing homes in communities where a critical need exists.”

David Thompson, President of Bermuda Overseas Missions, said, “We want to thank Validus for its continued support in our annual volunteer trips. Our company’s mission is to provide people from Bermuda, from all backgrounds, an opportunity to make a difference in the world by addressing global issues and by building houses in countries where there is a serious housing need.

“We would not be able to provide our volunteers with such a rewarding experience or help build any houses without the generosity and resources that companies like Validus provide.”
