July 16, 2014

The 2014 Y.A.O Baseball Bermuda traveling team recently completed a greater Boston area tour. The team competed against towns in Hudson, Burlington, Marlboro, and Westford and played two games against Littleton. The team went 3-3, becoming one of the most successful tours by a traveling baseball team from Bermuda organisers said.

The team was led by Captain Jackson Spurling, who was flawless in the outfield and helped out pitching for one inning. Nick Martin, playing a solid shortstop making a game saving play against Hudson. He also provided four strong innings on the mound.

Jack Martin started two games and was solid in both outings and provided strong defense at second base. Alex Bordage, was the starting catcher and provided a sure glove at first base as well.

Nasje Brokington led the team in batting with an average of .692 and a solid centerfield. Peter Silvester, was third in batting and provided help behind the plate, calling a great game against Hudson in the later innings. Dariyon Davis, the Y.A.O’s own “Big Papi” had a key double against Westford, driving in two runs.

Connor Somerville, patrolled the outfield and made catches worthy on ESPN’s plays of the day. Kaelen Paynter, provided strong depth in the infield and was flawless at 2nd base and 3rd base also providing a text book bunt against Littleton.

Two of the youngest on the team, performed above expectations on the mound and at the plate. Finlay Turnbull, was second in batting average, hitting .556 and on the mound, struck out 12 over 7 innings.

Sam Resnik led the team in RBI’s with 9 and while on the mound, he struck out 6 in 5 innings, one against Hudson for the final out, with the tying run on third and preserving the win.

A spokesperson said, “The boys also enjoyed a Red Sox game and a Double AA Minor league game in New Hampshire. The host towns were thrilled to have Bermuda come and play, providing dinner at all the games.

“A thank you must go out to Paul Martin who organized the trip, Damian Resnik & Daniel Bordage for coaching, all the parents who helped with laundry, water for the boys and scoring the games.

“A big thank you to all the parents and sponsors, who helped fund the trip. The boys should be congratulated for their efforts and for representing Bermuda proudly.”
