82 Year Old Rescued After Falling In Water

Emergency service personnel responded to the Harrington Sound Road area this afternoon [Aug 15] after an 82 year old woman fell into the water, where she remained for 4 hours until she was rescued.

Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel attended the scene and along with police, established contact with the victim while a boat also made its way to the area.

A police spokesperson said, “Police and first responders attended a report of an incident that took place at 3:05 this afternoon. It appears that a 82 year old woman was in walking near the banks of water when she slipped and fell in.

“A woman was walking in the area of Harrington Sound Road right behind the Post Office when heard the faint cries of someone in the area.

“The good Samaritan looked down and saw the woman hanging on the rocks and called for assistance. Emergency personnel got the woman out of the water and she presently is at KEMH being assessed.

“It appears that the woman was in the water for around 4 hours. The BPS would like to thank the woman who came to the aid of the 82 year old and all the emergency personnel who worked to get the woman from the water to the hospital.”

    Thank God, of my understanding that this senior is safe at K.E.M.H. It’s situations like this that makes one wonder about that fella that was visiting Bermuda and staying up the Country / Western end of the Island recently?

      That is the likely case of what happened. Tides and current carried him out to sea / body sank before being seen.

    Hope the senior recovered n tells us Wa happened !! It is a very dangerous edge there & common sense must prevail !! Signage no fencing ! Such a beautiful spot but very Dangerous !!!!!!!

      Nope! She was in the water for approx that long before she was ‘discovered’.
      To be honest, initially i thought that also until I reread the story.

      No…my understanding is that she was in the water for around 4 hours BEFORE the lady heard her cries for help….

    It did not take 4 hour to rescue the lady she was in the water for 3.5 hours before anyone found her.
