Bermuda Open with A Win In St. Lucia

Bermuda defeated St. Lucia 2 – 0 in its opening match of the 2014 International Tennis Federation [ITF]/Grand Slam Development Fund [GSDF] English Caribbean Wilson 12 and Under Central America and the Caribbean Tennis Confederation [COTECC] Team Championship Round Robin Stage at the National Tennis Courts in St. Lucia.

Bermuda team coach Jerome Bradshaw said, “This is just what is needed to ensure a good positioning in the main draw, which will start on Thursday.”

In the opening match at the number 2 position, Ben Jones had a 4-0, 4-0 victory while Trey Mallory had a little more to deal with in his 4 – 1, 4 – 2 victory. In the doubles match Mallory & Jones recorded a victory margin of 4 – 1, 4 – 0.

As Bermuda is in a Pool of 3 countries there final match in the Round Robin section tomorrow will be against Guyana.

“A first glance of the other groups, Curacao and the Bahamas are looking strong for the moment and are also expected to make the main draw section,” continued Bradshaw.

“This is the rainy season in St. Lucia so there continues to be short rain interruptions. This has not dampened any spirits and the tournament continues to be on schedule. The Bermuda boys are happy to have played their first match and of course are very pleased with the victory,” concluded Bradshaw.
