WWI Commemoration To Be Held At City Hall

August 13, 2014

Mayor Graeme Outerbridge will host a brief service on the steps of City Hall in Hamilton tomorrow [Aug 14] in order to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of hostilities in World War I.

The service is due to begin promptly at 12.00pm and is expected to last for approximately 30-40 minutes.

A spokesperson said, “The Bishop of Bermuda will lead in prayer and Chewstick will participate with poetry relating to the Great War. Mayor Outerbridge will read a proclamation with regard to the War and the roles that many Bermudians played, and the Last Post will be performed by Major Barrett St. Vincent Dill.

“The City of Hamilton wishes to alert the public that it will fly the Bermuda and City flags at half-staff tomorrow to mark the occasion and encourages others to do the same in a symbolic gesture of remembrance.

“Mayor Outerbridge invites and encourages the general public to attend the event.”

In the case of inclement weather, the service will be held in the City Hall Foyer.|

With his track record he should have organized a tribute to the end of World War 1.

Mind you; the demise of Ewing Street will be remembered by many old timers also.
