BPS Still Seek Rental Cycle Bag Theft Suspects

August 26, 2014

The police continue to seek the suspects who were filmed stealing from a visitor’s rental cycle on August 5th, with investigators continuing to appeal for any information that can identify the two individuals.

Speaking yesterday [Aug 25], a police spokesperson said, “Inquiries into this incident are ongoing, with investigators continuing to appeal for any information that can identify the two individuals shown committing a brazen daytime theft from a rental cycle on Tuesday, August 5th along South Road in Warwick.

“Anyone who can assist police in bringing these individuals to justice should contact the Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.”

At around 2:48pm on Tuesday August 5th, visitors on rental cycles were traveling east on South Road in Warwick near Astwood Park when two individuals on a motorcycle sped past them and removed a handbag from their rental cycle basket.

One of the visitors happened to have a go-pro camera on his cycle, which caught the theft on camera, and the police subsequently released the footage hoping the public could help identify the suspects.

The police also released photos and said the rider is wearing purple sneakers, there is only one mirror on the bike, the front left frame of the bike is cracked, and while the rider appears to be a brown complexioned male, the “gender of the pillion passenger at this point is very difficult to ascertain.”

  1. Raymond Ray says:

When are we going to have the Laws changed in reference to dark facial shields on helmets? Far too often the culprits aren’t apprehended due to the fact that they are wearing a dark shield helmet and this makes it virtually impossible to I.D. them :-(

    • appalled bda says:

I agree and a law also needs to be passed that cycle shops should be fined if they sell the dark and mirrored helmet shields.

    • micro says:

Won’t change anything. They’ll just use a scarf or mask…

      • Next says:

Yeah because that won’t be suspicious at all.

        • Moojun says:

They will simply wear full face helmets and sunglasses. Or should we also ban those items?

        • Come Correct says:

Like you can’t roll a ski mask up and pull it down. Too many simple minds on this island. Lets ban wearing anything.

“Excuse me sir I know its cold but you fit the description of the person we’re looking for”.

    • Kunta says:

All they have to do is secure their bag to de bungee cord, that’s what its there for.
      DUHHH

      • Tony says:

        Ahhh, so it’s the tourist’s fault? Right……..

  2. Thieves are snakes says:

When we do find them, law should be that we chop their damn hands off in public so we can all cheer and then laugh at them.

    • Kunta says:

Does that go for white color crime too??????????????????????????

      • Tony says:

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you meant to write “white collar”.

  3. RealTalk says:

Well what we do know is the bike type. We know that the front plastic has a crack on the left side of the headlight. We know there is only a right hand mirror.

If you see a bike like that, take down the licence plate and report it.

    • PBanks says:

Someone suggested in a previous thread that the bike was likely stolen, which would add a layer of complexity to things,… but still, every clue helps.

  4. swing voter says:

maybe I watch too much TV….CIS, The Mentalist, Criminal Minds, Person of Interest, Person of Interest, even Lenny Brisco from Law&Order wudda tracked these jokers down by now! Common BPS yur killin me

    • PBanks says:

You could add Matlock, Jessica Fletcher, Magnum PI if you want to take it way back… but yeah, you’re watching too much TV, heh.

      • Come Correct says:

F*** it lets bring in the A team and The Expendables. Yes, yes you do watch too much TV.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Yup, they should have had it solved in an hour, even with 20 minutes in commercials.

Seriously, what is the hold up?

  5. Truth is killin' me... says:

Both of the culprits are probably back at college or university now. Tourism Authority should offer a reward and then someone will talk.

    • Raymond Ray says:

I agree, offer rewards! A reward large enough will (without any doubt) lure someone to turn their “friend” in.
As a matter of fact, offer rewards for numerous types of crimes (Paid only upon conviction)

  6. Realist says:

    Someone must know something.
C’mon parents, friends, boyfriends, girlfriends someone drop a dime on these menaces to society.

  7. Kindley says:

I can’t believe that those two have not been caught. I guess those who know are fine with this becoming a way of life. Solve the crime with mandatory covers for the baskets? not good enough. This time it was only theft. Next time someone could be injured or killed by this kind of treatment of tourists.

  8. Kathy says:

The family members, friends are just as guilty. You would know those clothes, those shoes! Naughty, naughty society we live in!

  9. Dylan says:

what is more disturbing is that there are mothers , fathers, brothers , sisters who know who these CRIMINALS are and know one has turned them in …….. it is absolutely incredible with this footage with our small population this is allowed to to go unpunished ….. I find it hard to believe that we our Bermuda has stooped to this level. We should be embarrassed to be called a nation of respectful citizens we are no better than thugs.

  10. liz says:

Simple solution but expensive. Have the cycle shops get rid of the baskets and install the plastic locked units.

  11. Terri says:

There has to be someone out there who recognises these two. From the driver’s tank top to his sneakers, those are quite recognisable items. Someone just doesn’t want their “innocent baby” in trouble… Newsflash families – if you allow this to go unpunished, it will very likely get worse! Turn them in while they are still young and let them get the guidance they are so obviously lacking.
