August 3, 2014

The Bermuda U/17 football team has started competing in the Mexico Cup of Nations, losing 2-0 to Chile, then 2-0 to Portugal.

Bermuda’s starting line-up for the Chile game was Ajai Daniels, Kacy Butterfield, Jerome Bailey, Jason Symonds, Tahzeiko Harris, Azende Furbert, Jomei Bean-Lindo, Amar Lewis, Osagi Bascome, Judah Chapman, and Oneko Lowe; while the substitutes were Ahria Simons, Zenawi Bowen, Jomari Gooden, Lleniko Millett, Aaron Burgess, Maquille Walker, and Nathan Trott

Chile took an early lead in the 26th minute when Walter Ponce found the back of the net, and the lead was doubled in the 43rd minute through a Luis Salas goal, and the game ended 2-0 to Chile.

Bermuda took on Portugal in their second match, which also resulted in a 2-0 loss. One of the coaches said, “Bermuda played very well during the second half and held the Portuguese out for 65 mins and Portugal was awarded a controversial penalty. Portugal scored and were leading 1-0. Bermuda had a few shots on goal from Mcquille, which the keeper had to scramble to save. We pressed Portugal and then they hit us on the counter and scored a second goal.”

Impressive showing boys, to compete against 2 football powerhouses is highly encouraging and speaks to the talent and the coaching credentials in Bermuda. Remember these countries have a combined population of 28 million to select from!

  3. Raymond Ray says:

Luis I agree, they played against countries that have a combined population somewhere in the millions to choose from. Well done “u’lot” in-spite of the defeats, you’ve made me proud :-)
