Tropical Storm Bertha Forms In Atlantic Ocean

Tropical Storm Berth — the second named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season — has formed in the Atlantic, however according to the Bermuda Weather Service it is not a threat to Bermuda at this time.

The BWS said the closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs is forecast to be 578 nautical miles to the southwest at 12pm on Monday, August 4th.

In their latest update today [Aug 1], the U.S. Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm’s maximum sustained winds are 50mph, and although not a threat to Bermuda at this time, other jurisdictions are not so lucky, with Tropical Storm Warnings in effect for St. Lucia, Dominica, Martinique, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands.
