N.J. News Story Calls Bermuda “Paradise”

August 8, 2014

bermuda beach generic 3432424A story published by the Burlington County Times, a community newspaper based in New Jersey, calls Bermuda a “paradise,” exclaiming about its friendly people, beautiful climate, and less hectic “island time” in painting the island as a vacationer’s dream come true.

Leaving nothing to the imagination, the story opens by stating, “From June 29 through July 9, I had the best vacation of my life.”

“On June 29, I left Newark Airport on a 90-minute flight to Bermuda. Upon landing, the differences in the airports were obvious. At Newark, we were prodded and rushed, with the TSA agents triple-checking every little bag or personal item.

“In Bermuda, the airport was laid-back: open windows, friendly signs and tourists in floral shirts were everywhere.

“We drove past many Bermudian houses and buildings. They were brightly painted different colors, and the horizon was dotted with palm trees. The temperature was a breezy 85.

“Ah, yes, this truly seemed like paradise.

“There were touristy adventures, such as seeing the Bermuda aquarium, walking around Hamilton, and taking a cruise on a catamaran. There were adventurous adventures, like jumping off 20-foot cliffs, snorkeling, riding the equivalent of a wakeboard and driving a boat.

“The culture of Bermuda was interesting to compare to American culture. The people seem calmer and less in a hurry, and I was informed Bermudians were more likely to be late to things [“island time,” it’s called].

“One fun cultural event I saw was the dance of the Gombeys, which is a tradition going back hundreds of years. Dancers dress in colorful clothing and move in groups of 20 or 30 through the streets, followed by drummers who keep the beat.

“I wasn’t disappointed by Bermudian food, either. There is a seemingly endless list of freshly caught fish in all restaurants since, of course, Bermuda is an island.

“To those of you looking for a vacation, I highly recommend Bermuda as a travel destination. It has everything — sights, adventure, boats, great food and wonderful people!”

Good article and these are stories we need. I’m just glad he/she didn’t have to experience the dockyard beach shuttle nightmare.

  5. Raymond Ray says:

Just maybe, Bermuda Govt. / P.L.P. can unite for once and offer the couple that had their bag snatched from out of their livery cycle basket a free (return) trip to Bermuda. One which would leave by far a better taste in their mouths from what they’re presently leaving the Island with?

    • somuchless says:

What would they (PLP/Oba) get out of it? Nada so don’t expect much. Sad but that’s how politricks works here.

    • Kunta says:

De milk man can do that by himself, would be good for another photo opp.
      LMFAO

Claire Conte, the author of the article, is a student at The George School, a boarding school in Pennsylvania. It sounds like a Bermudian attends the school with her and she visited Bermuda with her friend.
