BEDC To Host Green/Blue Business Seminar

The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC] will be hosting an industry specific seminar entitled Green & Blue Economies Matter in order to help educate potential entrepreneurs on the value of operating a business in the green and blue [water] industries.

On Thursday, September 25, 2014 the seminar will be held at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] from 5.30pm through 8.30pm. The seminar will help existing and potential entrepreneurs understand what opportunities exist in green and blue industries.

A spokesperson said, “Moderated by Jack Ward, President and Scientist, Bermuda Environmental Consulting, Ltd, the seminar will include a panel discussion focused on topics including the rules and regulations governing green and blue industries, entrepreneurial testimonials of operating in these industries, benefits of starting a business in these industries, trends in the industries, and a small vendor trade show.

“The discussion will include industry experts Lynniece Nisbett Garnett of the Department of Sustainable Development, Jeane Nikolai, Director, Department of Energy, Pat Phillip-Fairn, Chief Product and Experiences Development Officer, BTA, and Samia Sarkis, Researcher at the Department of Conservation Services.

“Rounding out the discussion will be personal accounts from entrepreneurs in the industry including Jamie Smith, President and CEO, Solar Bermuda Ltd, Ashley Harris, owner, Hidden Gems of Bermuda Ltd, Choy Aming, Blue Onion Films, Bermuda Shark Project, and Randy Scott, Consultant, Auto Solutions.”

Erica Smith, BEDC Executive Director and organizer of the seminar, said, “There are so many opportunities in these industries and we are excited about providing an opportunity for budding entrepreneurs to learn what their options are.

“Our industry experts will provide guidance around regulatory requirements to get started operating in these industries. Registration is still open and is only $20 and $15 for our BEDC Members.
