The purpose of the Summer Student Challenge is to help students gain an understanding of real business issues and challenge them to think analytically, creatively and strategically, while working as part of a team.

The teams’ presentations were judged by a team of Butterfield employees and representatives from the Centre on Philanthropy, Karen Smith and Jennifer Pitcher.

Natasha Butterfield, Adrian Levine, Ashante Hart, Kyle Hamilton, James Howard, Taylor Ashley Bean, Tatyana Ortiz, Sudan Furbert and Quaejah Cox who worked with Somersfield Academy – Montessori Trust made up the winning team.

A cheque for $1,650 was presented to the Montessori Trust, which included the funds raised from a denim day and a $1,000 donation from Butterfield. All participating organisations received the business plans and other materials created by the Students for their consideration and potential implementation.

McKeisha Smith, VP HR Bermuda & Cayman said, “This year’s project saw the students put a lot of thought and hard work into their business plans that will serve the non-profit organisations well in re-focusing their business efforts. The end products from all the teams were great quality.”

Jennifer Pitcher of the Centre of Philanthropy commented, “The Centre on Philanthropy was delighted to be a part of the Butterfield Summer Student Employment Programme: 2014 Charity Challenge. We congratulate the Summer Students for their dedication to working together on business proposals for four deserving non-profits which will ultimately benefit our community.”

This year, Butterfield’s Students also participated in The Centre on Philanthropy’s 2014 Summer Intern Community Day in support of The Eliza Dolittle Society, and won the day’s Facebook Photo Challenge best team award.
