Economic Pie: When 10% is More Than 90%

September 16, 2014

Bermuda College Senior Economics Lecturer and well-known economist, Mr. Craig Simmons will tackle the slice-up of Bermuda’s economic pie, as the featured speaker at the College’s annual Fall Lecture on Thursday, October 2.

His lecture, dubbed — “Our Economic Pie: When 10% is More Than 90%”  – will focus on Bermuda’s economic inequalities and provoke discussion with the following questions:

  • In a struggling economy where financial investment is key to our survival, what kinds of governmental policies can be established to improve the lot of the poor without destroying the incentives that create wealth in the first place?
  • To what extent does a rising tide float all boats, or does it? And, can the introduction of a minimum wage improve inequality?

The Fall Lecture, “Our Economic Pie: When 10% is More Than 90%” will be held in the North Hall Lecture Theatre [G301] on October 2 at 7pm. A question and answer period will follow.
