Former Head Girl Gives School A KIC-Start

September 16, 2014

West Pembroke Primary School is the first local educational institution to use KICS Student Motivational Planners for their entire school during this 2014/15 academic year.

“This is such an honor,” said Angela Young, the Founder and President of iAspirations Limited. “West Pembroke Primary School was where my formal education began and later, I served as Head Girl during my final year. Naturally, it is very humbling that after all of these years the school will be my first corporate client.”

While the KICS Student Motivational Planners derived from an innocent attempt made by Ms. Young for her own middle-school aged daughter, the savvy entrepreneur had no idea they would garner so much interest.

When asked by Deputy Principal Mr. Wendell Smith if she had a concept for elementary-aged students, Ms. Young used her creative juices to develop and design page layouts which were appropriate for this younger audience.

This involved creating a unique page layout for the year levels of Primary 1 through to Primary 3 where the writing space was increased to feature a day’s entry; while the upper year levels feature traditional writing space to accommodate five subjects per day.

The colourful planners are customized featuring West Pembroke Primary School’s motto and tagline against the backdrop of an  image showcasing a family of lions and their cubs for the lower year levels. The cover for the upper year levels features a lion holding a large pencil near a colourful array of exercise books.

Each page also features original motivational quotes written by Ms. Young as well as a 12-month calendar page. All 236 planners were distributed on the first day of school.

“As we endeavor to improve our students’ executive skills, we felt it was time to use planners,” said Wendell Smith, Deputy Principal of West Pembroke School.

“I was very impressed with what Ms. Young had to offer in terms of concept, layout, quality, positive messaging to stretch students’ critical thinking skills and more importantly, the flexibility to customize the planners to our school’s specific needs. Of course, we were delighted that our planners were ready for distribution on the first day of school. ”

During the opening of the first day of school on Monday, September 8, Mr. Smith presented the KICS Student Motivational Planners to a packed assembly of new and returning students, parents, teachers as well as an official from the Ministry of Education.

“The response has been very positive and we are pleased to support a local business such as iAspirations Limited and its KICS products and services. These planners will assist our students to organize their daily academic requirements,” added Mrs. Opal Wilson, Principal of West Pembroke Primary School.

Commenting on the company’s successful product line, Ms. Young concluded: “After I showed a few P1 parents the planners I created for West Pembroke Primary School, several of them asked for their own copies. While our KICS Student Motivational Planners were initially geared for middle and high school students, we have now created a line specifically for primary school students: KICS Little Tykes Planners; including matching KICS Little Tykes Notebooks. As our planners and notebooks are designed and printed in Bermuda, I am very pleased by the growing interest and support. It further demonstrates that we have the local talent to produce at a high level— typical of industry standards.”
