HOUSE Charity For Men Officially Launches

September 18, 2014

The registered charity House of Unity and Self-Empowerment [HOUSE] was officially launched today [Sept 18]. As the brainchild of Mr. Antoine Bean, the organization will focus specifically on addressing issues experienced by Bermuda’s male population.

Mr. Bean said, “When I first identified areas of my own life that I was not happy with, I became fixated on finding solutions for the many challenges that Bermuda’s males face.

“Anger and frustration at being unemployed, and in many cases having the lack of the necessary education and life skills to be employed, homelessness, the increase in violent behavior, and recidivism, not to mention all types of abuse.

“I was further disillusioned when I discovered that there were no substantial programs in place to provide the necessary support many men require, hence the creation of HOUSE and its programs and services.

“As a solution for our island community, HOUSE will become the critical Resource Centre in the community to help men work through their issues and take their rightful place in society, men who are our sons, brothers, grandsons, friends, husbands, and more to us.”

Having received charitable status, the organization will partner with like-minded agencies and organizations to offer guidance and holistic programs aimed at improving the opportunities available to men with the goal of positively impacting their life choices.

HOUSE is also tasked with building its infrastructure through strategic planning, program development and fundraising initiatives, the first of which will be held at Bermuda Fun Golf located in the Royal Naval Dockyard on Saturday, September 27 from 10.00am to 5.00pm.

“HOUSE is off to a great start,” continued Mr. Bean. “We’ve got programs to launch that will all take funding – so I‟m very encouraged by the amount of people who will donate their time to ensure that the HOUSE Family Fun Day will be a great success. They all want to contribute to help restore our men.

“I urge everyone, especially men, to bring their families and friends to play a round of mini-golf and enjoy great food and lots of different types of entertainment. Also launched on the day will be our raffle to run until the month of November.

“We ask that you join us in our goal of “Renewing Families and the Community by Empowering Men to Succeed,” and, in the words of Nelson “Madiba” Mandela, to say to you, “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”
