Juan Wolffe Appointed Senior Magistrate
Government House confirmed that the Governor George Fergusson has appointed Juan Wolffe as Senior Magistrate with effect from 20 October 2014.
Mr Wolffe will take up this role upon the retirement of the current Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner on 19 October 2014. Mr Warner will, however, continue to serve as a Magistrate for a further two years after he demits office as Senior Magistrate.
The Governor said, “I am delighted that Mr Wolffe has accepted the role of Senior Magistrate. He has served diligently in the role of Magistrate over the last 8 and a half years and has shown that he has the skills and experience necessary to manage the administration of the Magistrates’ Court.
“I am also pleased to announce that Mr Warner has graciously agreed to serve a further term of two years after he demits the office as Senior Magistrate. Mr Warner’s experience will continue to be an asset to the Judiciary.
“I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to his enormous public service as the Senior Magistrate for the past 14 years – an extraordinary record.”
The appointment of Senior Magistrate is made by the Governor after consultation with the Judicial and Legal Services Committee [JLSC]. The post of Senior Magistrate was advertised and candidates were interviewed by the JLSC, who then made a recommendation to the Governor which he accepted.

I beg of you / the Courts Your Honour, to be more firm in passing down sentences…Too many are walking out of our Courtrooms literally smiling and this must be changed if there is going to be any precedence set to show others in reference to consequences for various criminal acts.
