It is quite remarkable that more pedestrians are not hit. Hope this victim fully recovers.

    • Micro says:

Would reckon the person couldn’t be seen or avoided due to that hedge growing into the road, especially if something was headed in the other direction.

  2. San George says:

There is no excuse for hitting a pedestrian.

  3. JUNK YARD DOG says:

“WALK AND WEAR” ! black and white clothing carry a flash light the pedestrians have to accept some responsibility.

The T.Control.D. policy regarding high and low beam settings is not the same as the standards set by the auto industry.

    Blame the T.Control.D.

  4. PANGAEA says:

    No more road fatalities.

What if ! it was a tractor trailer of Government bus etc.

PARKS DEPARTMENT needs to get of their rear end and get on with aggressive road side vegetation trimming.

Hire the P.S.L. Private Sector Landscapers, chain saw division.

    “Dead line Yesterday ”

Charge and Bill the delinquent property owners.

Government needs to fine all land owners that do no cut their hedgeing if you walk up on Longford road the side walk is covered by bush making pedestrians walk on the narrow road where speeding cars race between harbour and middle road daily!(speed bumps please!)some bush that covers all one side of the road on the opposite side of purvis has thorns and can poke a person or kid in the eye ! so called wooded arears clean them up nothing more tan rat breeding grounds! all the fancy homes in the middle road área a Little wind and the branches come down on the road causing a danger to anyone on a bikes in particular.

why should our tax monies go toward the payment of cleaning up the shrubs and ill landscaping of private properties !

gov Bermuda needs money how about taking some of the staff that will be without from the post offices closure into a new dep that monthly travel bermudas road and fine property owners that have shrubs, bush, tres in excess of twelve inches to the road side 500 dollars ! not only will that make the government a pretty penny to help with the local debt but will make Bermuda that much nicer and a hell of alot safer!!!1

  5. Familyman says:

There is a basic rule about speed: you should always be able to stop your vehicle within half of your sight. So if bushes or darkness limit visibility, slow down. Even 35 km/h is too fast in some places under certain conditions, and don’t even talk about those maniacs who go 50 or faster. It is about lives of people! Slow down, Bermuda. Don’t be so selfish thinking only about your schedule. Take your time, not someone’s life. We don’t have sidewalks, people need to get out of their drive ways or should be able to walk to a bus stop. People overtake me constantly, only to be 100 meters in front of me and then be behind the next decent driver. Try to always keep a 20 – 30 meter clearance to the vehicle in front of you and suddenly you won’t feel the urge to go faster. Try to make it a skill not to tale gate.

  6. Boston Baked says:

@ Micro: It was still light out when the man was hit — and he was wearing a white tee shirt. There was no hedge obstruction. Obviously the driver wasn’t paying attention. There were 3 people and they were incredibly lucky and difficult not to miss.

    • amazing grace says:

Apparently the one who dented the windscreen was particularly ‘difficult not to miss’. Speedy recovery please.

  7. Triangle Drifter says:

Speed, impatiance, poor driving skills & roads unsuitable for the vehicles on them, never mind a shoulder for pedestrians to walk on, are a recipe for this sort of thing happening.

  8. Cardine Alice says:

As a regular pedestrian user along North Shore, and elsewhere, the dangerous driving I have seen is astounding. Aggressive driving will land you in prison. Drive like there are pedestrians on the road at all times. Better still get out and run/ walk along these roads then you may drive more carefully.

  9. tom cooke says:

I remember taking some photos by the lower ferry on habour rd at 5.15 one evening, last summer, scariest walk ever…

    • in the news says:

The road needs to be fixed properly going around Coral Beach club in Paget. Put a proper sidewalk from the driveway top of the entrance of the hill along down cross the tennis area down to the next entrance of the Coral beach

  10. Neighbor says:

I live on Langton Hill and that intersection can be quite tricky for those who are not familiar with it. Im surprised there arent more accidents there. Its too congested with people not giving way when they are supposed to and not stopping at those two stop signs. That intersection should be addressed. I say it every time i come down the hill.

  11. Over your head says:

On the phone or texting? I see it all the time. Makes me so mad!
