People’s Campaign’s Latest Public Evaluation

September 24, 2014

The People’s Campaign have released their Public Evaluation for the month of August, which seek to assess the Government and the Opposition through public evaluations.

Commenting on the 90-day extension to the MOU granted to The Bermudiana Beach Resort, the People’s Campaign said “the selling of this prime piece of real estate contravenes our view that Government should protect the peoples’ assets.”

On the issue of PRC holders and Bermuda status, the People’s Campaign said they “implore the OBA to engage in a comprehensive immigration review with the various stakeholders.”

Responding to the news that that company registrations were up 2% in the second quarter of 2014, the People’s Campaign said that while they are “cautiously encouraged by this news, we are concerned about the lack of jobs that have been created over the last 20 months and implore the government to make job creation their priority.”

Commenting on the mid–year Economic Review released by the Government on August 21st, the evaluation said, “The People’s Campaign applauds the Government’s efforts to improve transparency on the reporting of the fiscal and economic affairs of the country. We encourage the public review this report.”

“The People’s Campaign is alarmed that elected officials at the Corporation of Hamilton have refused to sign a new Code of Conduct pro-posed by the Government,” the evaluation added. “We encourage the two parties move quickly to resolve this issue keeping the people’s best interest in mind in the process.”

  1. LiarLiar says:

    Balanced review and commentary.

Well done PC for the August review. A definite improvement on previous releases for sure and I look forward to more of the same for future evaluations.

Glad to see that the shenanigans of the CoH are now being addressed by the PC as well.

    • Yawn says:

You don’t actually believe that the CoH matter is “really” of concern to them do you? CoH heads are PLP/PC/BIU and you know what they say”never bite the hand that feeds you”!.

    • Build a Better Bermuda says:

While it is a little more balanced than the last, it still smacks of imbalance in favour of a pro-PLP view. They snippet the Premiers quotes, but give Marc Bean a full versing on the pitfall’s of the Westminster System, yet fail to acknowledge that there is no other political system in the world that doesn’t pit one side against another except Totalitarianism, that is the very nature. And even in Totalitarianism it is a ‘winner takes all’ situation.
It criticizes government action at every turn, even where they acknowledge a positive move by them, but at no point have they stood against the PLP attempt to un-democratically have our government dissolved, or how Marc Bean led the house to it’s lowest point with his debate of hypotheticals.
The BPAC investigation, as it is a police investigation, they cannot publicly discuss the matter now.
And when did they hold 3 PRC town halls… there hasn’t been any town halls on PRC’s since the 3 PLP rallys of misinformation.
And their take on the MOU for the Grand Atlantic is completely devoid of reality.
The PC have still yet to show that they actually speak for the people, but in fact still remain by de-facto a PR branch of the PLP and BIU.

    • PBanks says:

Where’s their statement concerning the BIU’s raising of dues? Heh.

  2. Dreadlocks says:

Yeah mon, these dudes should have been around when the previous govt were in power. Maybe just maybe they would have spoken out against their brethren .

  3. Allspice says:

    Astroturf.

  4. Coolieh says:

Should not be the …” The People’s Campaign” , as it’s misleading!

Stop insulting everyones’ intelligence and change the name!

It’s should be called the …”PLP’s Campaign”

    Smiths

    • Raymond Ray says:

I totally agree…The vast majority of voters are not associated with this so called “People’s Campaign”. It’s misleading, an insult to the majorities intelligence :-(

    • Yawn says:

The idea behind their PC membership is simple and a a sign of 50s, 60s and 70s politics. Form many groups with the same agenda and have all groups go to the press often and with the similar ideas, thoughts and agendas. This gives you many more opportunities to get your propaganda out there with the hopes that the same message and /or lies when told by many with appeal to a broader range of individuals that were previously, non-compliant!

Problem is, people are no longer that stupid and can see right though this. We’ve all seen how this movie ends. Call your group whatever you want, but like Donal used to say, If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck…it’s probably a duck.

  5. TSOL says:

Nothing but a wing of the PLP.

    • Cleancut says:

It’s run by staunch PLP members and supporters, so why would it be anything else than the PLP in sheeps clothing. If the PLP win the next election the PC will dissolve like an alka seltzer.

  6. Malachi says:

….and somebody cares about this group’s opinion??

  7. Need Peace says:

The People’s Campaign is NOT an extension of the PLP! Are you of the opinion that the PEOPLE (You excluded) do not have their own minds to protest against policies they feel are unjust? There are other groups that are opposed as well and are not an extension of the PLP. Thanks but no thanks for your deflection on this matter.

    • Creamy says:

Yes it is. The Peoples Campaign is the PLP. Same thing, dressed up differently.

      • Ian says:

Rich coming from an OBA supporter…

        • hmmm says:

Are the people heading this campaign PLP members or supporters of the PLP?

          YES

          Nuff Said

        • Creamy says:

I have no connection with the OBA, but I can see what the BIU PLP PC is.

    • Yawn says:

I trust that if check the membership of the PLP you will find that the PC heads are likely all registered and paid members of the PLP?

Who cares about the group anyway. I have no time for any f’n group that would look the other way and allow a member to hold a RACIST sign in their march. You do remember “white mental disease” sign don’t you! Whatever happened to her? Hmmmm nothing. It all went away quietly. However, another woman tells marchers to go back to work and not to be lazy and these same leaders (marching under another banner) pushed to have her fired!

    • Politricks says:

Sorry my friend but the first PC march on cabinet resulted in the marchers chanting “PLP, PLP, PLP” when at the steps of the House and cheered when the PLP MPs came out of the building.

Then in all subsquent marches they flew a massive PLP flag while the leaders of the PC are all well known PLP stalwarts (i.e. the Furberts, Hayward and Tweed).

Nothing wrong with that, but at least be true to your underlying cause which is to assist in restoring the PLP to power.

As the old timers say I was born at night, just not last night.

    • aceboy says:

Silly question, I know, but out of curiosity which party do YOU support?

  8. A Dingo says:

They don’t speak for me. ‘People’s Campaign’? Don’t make me laugh.

  9. Onion says:

They’re mixing up assets and liabilities. Grand Atlantic is a giant liability.

    • Um Um Like says:

Cut to the chase. Well said, Onion.

    • JUNK YARD DOG says:

Save Tax payer money ! B.H.C. are a redundant liability , their construction services no longer applicable.

There is no such thing as affordable housing , never was and never will be.

  10. We Are Not Amused! says:

The REAL People are NOT interested in this hidden plp/biu outfit.

    • Ian says:

Real like who? The foreigners who, ashamed of the controversy, are quietly moving (as quietly as possible) to secure Bermuda status through a sleeping provision?

  11. Somerset Girl says:

    You mean PLP/BIU/UBP……

  12. Creamy says:

I like the way their manifesto talks about “equal treatment under the law for all”, but then they want the law to be broken when it comes to people with PRCs. Clowns.

    • Onion says:

Based on their membership they’re also probably not so keen on gays either.

  13. Navin Johnson says:

Is the Reverend Tweed still around or has he moved on to his next destination?

    • serengeti says:

Don’t know. Maybe his work permit expired?

    • We Are Not Amused! says:

who?…oh him, another Hate Monger, hopefully the Island has seen the last of his kind but I really doubt it.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Maybe he has gone off to do a course with Sharpton or Jackson.

  14. bluebird says:

And all these people are drawing a “PAYCHECK” from Government.
All TAXPAYERS had better pay attention as this is another form of COMMUNISM,they would like to take over the Government and you will loose your “FREEDOM” because they know what is best for you,as you are too dumb to decide.
They learn this at all Colleges and Universities.

  15. North Rock says:

When I read stuff like this, all I can think of is that if we are ever to survive, much less improve our economy, our community and ourselves…it will be in spite of these types of groups, not because of them.

  16. Silence Do Good says:

The real test of the PC is if the PLP get back into power. I wonder if they will still be active and what they will be saying then.

  17. 32n64w says:

If the People’s Campaign were so concerned about equality, so much so they have a link to the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights on their web webpage, why do they conspicuously ignore Article 15 which states:

    (1) Everyone has the right to a nationality.
    (2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality.

If they were so concerned about jobs why do they pay a non-Bermudian firm to host their website in Canada?

If they were so concerned about justice why not call the PLP out for refusing to attend the House to represent their constituents’ best interests? Why encourage refusal to uphold Immigration law promulgated under the PLP?

The simple answer is because the People’s Campaign is a heavily biased PLP/BIU PAC that purports to care about these core issues but conveniently forgets them in pursuit of achieving political gain whenever convenient. They are hypocrisy incarnate.

  18. Traveller says:

The People’s Campaign will say NOTHING if the PLUBP become the govt.
They are trying to convince us how evil the OBA are and how great the PLP are. We know they want power.

  19. Raymond Ray says:

He can never fit into his fathers shoes! As I have mentioned before in reference to Mr. Tweed having “the option” of returning to the country of his birth and leaving all his followers, (them that have no option/s) stuck in Bermuda…Sad yes but true :-(
