Bermuda Insurance Market Conference At BUEI

The Bermuda Insurance Institute [BII] will host the 4th Annual Bermuda Insurance Market Conference at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on Thursday & Friday, October 23rd and 24th.

Chris Fisher, BIMC Conference Chairman, and Andrew Soares, Chairman, BII Council, will open and welcome delegates to the Conference.

The program will include Dr. Grant Gibbons, Minister of Education and Economic Development. David Cash, Deputy Chairman, Bermuda Business Development Agency [BDA], will examine the development of the Bermuda insurance market and the current stage of its evolution; Clare Spearing, Head of Operations, BDA, will provide an overview of the BDA – its role, mandate, objectives and the actions required to boost the economy.

Speakers from overseas include Dr. David Loughran, Chief Economist & Director Casualty Risk Analytics, and Fred Kipperman, Vice President, Global Development, Praedicat, Inc. who will join the casualty discussion Predicting Change: How Casualty Analysis is Increasingly Focused on the Future.

Praedicat is the world’s first “liability cat” modeling company. It was created by the RAND Corporation and Risk Management Solutions, Inc. after the two companies collaborated on research and development to improve the identification and prioritization of emerging risks using stateof-the-art knowledge engineering technology and modeling methods.

Also joining the conference from overseas are Michael Collins, QC, Crandall Hanscom & Collins, and Allen Burton, Partner, O’Melveny & Myers, who will participate in the arbitration panel: A Look Under the Hood: What Underwriters and Claims Handlers should know about the Arbitration Process. Mr. Collins has more than 22 years’ experience as an arbitrator and is a member of the advisory board of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration. Mr. Burton’s practice focuses on complex commercial disputes, including insurance and financial institutions arbitration.
