October 25, 2014

The Bermuda Football Association announced that BFA Executive member Shequita Parson and BFA Women’s National Team Coach will be representing Bermuda at the CONCACAF Women’s Seminar “Let’s Develop Women’s Football” to be held this weekend in Philadelphia.

Shequita Parson is attending as the representative of the BFA, whilst Naquita Robinson is attending as a presenter for one of the workshops at the seminar. Going forward, Naquita Robinson will work closely with CONCACAF to tailor make a Women’s Football development plan for the region.

BFA President Larry Mussenden stated that, “CONCACAF recognizes that the future of women’s football is in the hands of the member countries, and through close collaboration we have the opportunity to open the door to the numerous benefits and opportunities that football offers to thousands of young girls in our region.

“In Bermuda, we know we have hundreds of girls in the school system who love to play football. We are keen to provide regular football development and activity to those girls and we look forward to re-establishing our football for girls.

“Likewise, we want to have an exciting league for our women’s football. Our women’s and girls’ national teams have had huge success over the last few years and we encourage more players to come out and get involved. We are also encouraging any girls who want to be referees to get involved.”

The main objectives of the “Let’s Develop Women’s Football” seminar are:

  • Current status of Women’s Football in CONCACAF
  • Common needs in the Region
  • Strategic Planning

Shequita Parson is the chair of the newly re-established Women’s Committee. She also serves as a member of the Caribbean Football Union Women’s Committee. She is also a very experienced Match Commissioner for CONCACAF whereby she travels to international matches and is responsible for all aspects of the organization and playing of the match.

Naquita Robinson is a long standing Womens’ National team Coach and a former national team player. She attended the CONCACAF D License course in Cayman Islands in 2013 where she was successful in obtaining her CONCACAF D License.

A spokesperson said, “We extend best wishes to Shequita and Naquita in representing Bermuda and we look forward to their future participation in developing and establishing the game in Bermuda for the benefit of all women and girls.”
