Today’s luncheon coincided with the UN International Day of the Older Persons, and according to the Premier, it was “quite fitting to formally recognize our seniors and celebrate with the theme, Live Healthy and Live Better”.

And as part of a special tribute today, 55 individuals were recognized for their contributions to Bermuda. Awards were presented to centenarians, special couples and seniors who were nominated by local clubs.

“It is the absolute least we can do because each of you in your own special way have played such an important role in building the Bermuda we have today. So today, we are proud to come together to pay homage to you. You are the foundation and lifeblood of this community… you are our wisdom and our conscience… and today Bermuda is a better place because of your sacrifice and dedication.”

Minister Scott added, “It is an honour to pay tribute to and salute our esteemed elders. We recognize and value our seniors as the cornerstone of our society; and today we paused to say, thank you. This Government understands the sacrifices they have made and continue to make to help their families and their communities. We thank them for enriching our lives and today we were pleased to applaud their contributions.”

It would be so much better if ‘homage’ was reflected in a cost of living Pension increase to Pensioners.

  2. Coffee says:

This has to be the phoniest government ever . Last week they denied them an increase , this week they invited them to a set , placated them, told them eat all you want knowing dan well seniors can’t eat much . LOL

    • Holy Moly says:

Speak for yourself. I’m a senior and I eat as much now as I always did!

    • SMH says:

      Coffee/Christopher,

There is no money left now to fund pension increases or anything for that matter. Again, what is YOUR solution to fun the $1.5B to fund our currently underfunded pension plans? We all await your response as being an arm chair quarter back is a lot easier than being an actual coach right now, right?

  3. Lol says:

Dunkley is very sincere and I have great confidence in him as a race transcending leader. Wayne Scott has done some good things too but I don’t trust him at all.

  4. Rick Olson says:

Enjoy 20% off your bill at BERMUDA BISTRO all Octobrt PLUS free soup with all lunch and dinners for Bermuda seniors everyday in October .

    • Robert says:

      Well done rick

    • Peggy Burns says:

      Olson,

You are at it again–covertly attempting to trick seniors into emptying their small change, which they have in their knotted handkerchieves, into your inflated bank account. Dining at home is CHEAPER. Seniors who enjoy the fellowship and company of others and an outing can each bring a dish and share, and $ave. I Guarantee they’ll each return to their respective homes with leftovers for another meal or two.

People, do as I say, and do as I do.
