Bermuda’s Top 50 Twitter List For October

October 31, 2014

[Written by Don Burgess] We’re back! The last time the Top 50 Twitter List was published was July and there have been a few changes.

One thing that stayed the same as former WWE champion and Fox News commentator John Layfield remains the undisputed king of the Bermuda twittersphere with well more than a half million followers.

In the top 10, Dudley Freedom moved past music star Collie Buddz into the second spot with 75,200 followers and Ledrew Fox slipped past entertainer Devaune Ratteray into fifth.

Forbes Journalist Clare O’Conner gained her 10,000 follower and is now close to 11,000. Bernews and ACE Group gained just more than 1,000 followers each in three months, and jumped up two spots in the rankings to 12th and 13th respectively.

Gideon Kigotho makes his debut at #32 with 3,217 followers. Arthur Rego replaced DjiBreeze at #50, to rejoin the rankings.

People who have more than 900 followers can find out where they rank in Bermuda by Tweeting to Don Burgess via @DonBermuda, and if your name should be in the top 50, you can also contact Don via Twitter.

    Thats a lot of twits.

  2. Nikky Tesla says:

This list is vastly inaccurate for the simple fact that most of these accounts have a higher following-to-followers ratio. How can you call yourself an influencer on twitter when have 20,000 followers but you’re following 25,000 people?! I think the simple fact is that most accounts are buying their followers. There are many websites nowadays where you can pay $$$ for bots or inactive accounts to follow you. This is how they get their follower numbers up.

@DonBermuda: I think a more beneficial list would be the biggest influencers of Bermuda on twitter which takes into account their following-to-follwers ratio along with other social media stats like engagement per post etc.

Just my two cents. These lists often irk me for the reasons described above.

    :) lol

You are not the only one irked by this list. Thank you and agree whole heartedly.

Quality over quantity matters most…Follower count is a useless vanity metric that gets people focusing on the wrong things when it comes to social media. People start chasing followers instead of engaging with their followers and building social communities which is what SOCIAL is all about.

Harmless in the short term but if we in Bermuda want to be a formidable force on social media, we need to look at other things as suggested above.

and that’s my two cents added.

I don’t know 95% of these people. I must not be following them on my InstaTweeterGramBook.

  4. Jeremy Deacon says:

Bloody long way to go then ….

  5. bdaman441 says:

See how many fake followers you have with this ….

    fakers.statuspeople.com/

Then try a couple of those in your top 5.

  6. Somerset Girl says:

Hey do you provide a similar list for Pinterest?

  7. Don Burgess says:

    Hi Nicky,
I will be doing a Klout list next week which measures social media influence which uses, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Foursquare and Google+. Some of the names on this list won’t be near the top 25 on that one.

And yes, there are probably several people who have purchased followers. Several months ago, I did run everyone through a Fake Followers website. Unfortunately, even that isn’t accurate as one day a person can have as low as 4% and then the next go to 22% with no real change in their follower numbers.

But I am glad you pointed it out as some people are not aware that can happen.

Somerset Girl, I have been asked to do both an Instagram and Pinterest list for Bermuda, and that may be something i start to do next year, but it has to be hand collated and takes several hours to do one, and even then names will be missed.

I missed someone off this list (they tweeted me this morning) and will be added for the December listing.
