Impounded Vehicles: BPS Still Seeking Owners

October 31, 2014

The Police Service said they “have a number of motorcycles and other vehicles in their possession,” and the public is “encouraged to review the list of registration numbers to identify any vehicle that may belong to them.”

Inspector Robert Cardwell, Officer Responsible for Roads Policing said, “These vehicles are a combination of recovered reported stolen vehicles and the registered owner is not contactable or has left the island; vehicles taken from collision scenes for safe keeping and have not been collected or the owner has not given the police written permission to dispose of it and vehicles that are not registered such as motor-cross motorcycles and pedal cycles.

“In the case of motor-cross motorcycles in particular these are frequently seized as a result of the rider dropping them and making good their escape or where the rider has been arrested on suspicion of ‘taking it without the owner’s consent’, the lawful owner cannot be traced and the rider has no interest in claiming it.

“Members of the public who have had a pedal cycle or motor-cross motorcycle stolen from them are encouraged to make an appointment with the Impound Officer to view or claim them at lswan@bps.bm or on telephone number 247-1454.

“If anyone has lost a kayak or knows someone who has lost a kayak they are also encouraged to contact the Impound Officer. The Police Service’s priority is to return this property to their rightful owners.”

Why oh why can’t the Police auction them off or sell them out-right for X amount of $ and then utilize them $ for something constructive? By tossing them into the dump helps no-one :-( Sad yes., but true…
