Three Young Men Sentenced On Theft Charge

October 27, 2014

In Magistrate’s Court this morning [Oct 27], Tarik Ebbin, 17, of Smith’s Parish and Dunneiko O’Mara, 19, of St. George’s, and Troy Henderson, 20, of Pembroke were each given twelve month prison sentences, which were suspended, for their part in stealing over $33,125 worth of electronic goods and jewelry from a home in July 2014.

Taking advantage of pre-installed anti-theft GPS tracking devices in the electronic goods, detectives had tracked some of the stolen items to one of the defendant’s home.

Senior Magistrate Juan Wolffe ordered that their imprisonment was to be suspended for 24 months and that there was also to be a probation period of two years.

The Magistrate ordered that the probation period include a 10:00pm to 6:00am curfew; that the three were to abstain from illegal drugs and alcohol; submit to psychiatric evaluation; and carry out all other instructions given by their Probation Officers.

The Magistrate warned all three that they must return in early December and that at that time he was likely to rule on the matter of restitution.

A curfew, that’s pretty harsh. If they were cruise ship passengers caught with a spliff in their cabin, they would have at least received a fine.

    • Chumba Womba says:

They should have all been locked up for a year plus community service! I’m tired of people thinking they can take what they WANT without consequences, while honest hard working people must work for what we NEED.

Another slap on the wrist sentence from our courts. I no longer blame the parents, or the police, it’s our magistrates that constantly fail to set examples.

  2. Your joking says:

And the lesson learned by the youth…steal till you get caught then accept your slap on the wrist …

    • Black Soil says:

Put those punks to work on hurricane clean-up on every weekend while on their suspended sentence. They KNEW what they were doing is WRONG.

  3. wow says:

I thought this would be some old crack head. but it kids that should know by now not to steal apple products because of the gps programs. they must be brain dead.

  4. Micro says:

Hope there’s a lot of community service involved as well as training in a trade so these young men can become productive members of society and not continue down the road they’re headed on.

I don’t see anything about restitution having to be made :-( but just maybe their Probation Officers can suggest it along with Micro recommendations ?

  5. nok says:

And this is why they do it cause they get slaps on theie wrist!!!Bermuda is another world.

    • Jonny rocket says:

do you suggest locking them up and paying 80k per person to house and feed them? At most community service with labor should be their sentence.

  6. Sad says:

Find my iPhone best app ever!

  7. el presidenti says:

These Magistrates need to be removed!..get tougher people on the bench.

and we all wonder why this Island is messed up!

  8. Truth is killin' me... says:

    B………………S……………..sentences!!!!!!

  9. Bermy says:

should have sent them Westgate for 3 months to show them what life will be like if they continue down this road. And at the end of the 3 months , make them all make FULL restitution to the aggreived parties.

  10. Supporter says:

    What a let off!
Suspended sentence for breaking on someone’s house and stealing 33,000 $$$$$$ worth of goods. You steal a bottle of vodka worth $15 from a grocery store and get 3 months in gaol!

  11. Creamy says:

So it’s official. You can break into people’s homes, steal their stuff, lie about it, show no remorse, and absolutely nothing will happen.

  12. Mr Ed says:

The sentence is to light – they most likely feel as if they got away with something now! -
but on the other side of the coin Govt. saved a bundle of money by not sending them to jail also.
I’m not that stupid to believe that these young Chaps are going to follow such a curfew LOL’

  13. SMH SOME CAN & SOME BETTER NOT. THEY WILL DO IT AGAIN JUST WATCH & SEE TROUBLED CHILDREN @ A YOUNG AGE.THEY NEED HELP

  14. Jonny rocket says:

For those who feel they should be jailed, do you really think that westgate corrects ppl. How many prisoners have went jail and got out and ended up back in. Why are you all so quick to want to lock ppl up and pay 80k per person to house and feed them? There needs to be hard labor community service alternative of prison, perhaps with Agg and fish cleaning up the island for free or some kind of labor 1st before just sending ppl to prison, thats a last resort. Prison should be a place for hardcore criminals, murderers, rapest…etc After all its overun with black men, the system doesnt work. The judgement was correct looking long term. If they violate their terms then yes prison is the result.

  15. HIGHER ECHELON says:

wannabe thugs, bunch of pathetic losers, miserable creatures, one day you chumps will end up on the wrong property, wrong house, then you will be living a hell when your fingers, hands, toes, feet get HACKED OFF by some crazy guy

  16. aceboy says:

    Yup Creamy.

These fools don’t even have to pay the money back?

No wonder we have crime…it seems to pay.

  17. MAKE MY DAY says:

This Senior Magistrate Juan Wolffe is turning out to be like Warner… No prison time – no fines – no restitution – just probation!! These clowns are laughing at BDA’s criminal justice system!!

You are certainly sending the WRONG message to possible future criminals!!

  18. will says:

Put them in the stocks for public shaming! I for one would like to see if one of them is prowling my property.

  19. Ace girl says:

Absolutely shocking that theses brazen thieves get that sentence. And the deterrent for them doing it again?….NONE. What is wrong with the judicial system. I wonder how the judge would have felt had it been his research that had been stolen, not to mention the violation of his privacy. They should have been at the very least ordered to work alongside the Regiment and the W&E crews in the hot sun doing island clean up to pay a little of their debt back to society……
And we wonder why society is the way it is?
