Three People Abandon Sailboat After Fire

Three people onboard the sailboat Wooden Heart abandonded the vessel following a fire on the boat, as it was located approximately 240 nautical miles north of Bermuda. The three survivors were picked up by the M/V AM Zenica, and are now en route to Croatia.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “RCC Bermuda receives a telephone call from the US Coastguard in Norfolk.

“RCC Norfolk advises that a Canadian registered sailing vessel Wooden Heart with 3 persons onboard, is disabled following a fire onboard approximately 240nm north of Bermuda.

“The sailing vessel which was enroute to Bermuda is being abandoned to merchant vessel AM Zenica, which was on passage to Crotia.

“At 12:30 pm, RCC Norfolk further advises RCC Bermuda that all 3 survivors from the sailing yacht are safe and enroute to Crotia onboard the M/V AM Zenica.”
