Bermuda’s football duo, Kamali Davis and Llineiko Millett returned home last night [Nov 2] after an intense week-long training session with Chelsea FC Foundation coaches in Kingston, Jamaica.

The 2014 Digicel Kick Start Academy came to an exciting close on Saturday [Nov 1] as Team Digicel won the final match against the Jamaica U-17 national team which had a successful campaign in the recently-held CFU Championships.

The historic Sabina Park served as the ideal venue for the best young footballing talent in the region to showcase their skills as they played a series of matches that featured an all-star team of players from across 13 Caribbean and Central American countries competing against the Jamaica National U-17s.

The teams seemed equally matched but, as the day progressed, it was evident that Team Digicel was more determined clinching the victory in the end. Bermuda’s Kamali Davis joined Team Digicel in the final to help bring the team to a victory.

David Monk and his team of coaches from the Chelsea FC Foundation were proud of their players. He said; “We want to thank the players and the coaches for their hard work.

“They have achieved a lot in a short space of time and they exemplify what we are trying to do with regional football development. All the players who participated in the Digicel Kick Start Academy are winners and we hope you will continue on your path to developing your skills and talents both on and off the pitch.”

Another highlight for Bermuda’s Llineiko and Kamali was their ability to make it to the “3v3” finals against Suriname where both teams were able to surpass more recognised football giants like Jamaica, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago. In the end, Suriname claimed victory with a match score of 5 – 3.

Alistair Beak, CEO of Bermuda added; “We are delighted to have brought this fantastic opportunity to Bermuda’s young, aspiring footballers who were also excellent ambassadors for the island. The Digicel Kick Start Academy has proven successful in its ambition to develop youth football both here in Bermuda and in the region.”

The Academy is a culmination of the Digicel Kick Start Clinics which gave more than 400 players a chance to train with coaches from the Chelsea FC Foundation. The coaches not only trained the best of each country’s male and female players – but also hosted a separate session where the country’s top youth coaches received the very latest coaching techniques as used by Chelsea FC’s youth teams.
