Holiday Trunk Show With Designer Oneka Benn

November 26, 2014

Bio-Pic-828x1024The Island Shop will be hosting holiday trunk show with Oneka Benn Schwartz, a luxury home furnishings designer, featuring a limited edition collection of bespoke pillows, table linens, bed linens, lampshades and other home furnishings.

The Trunk Show will be held on Dec. 10th, 11th and 12th at The Island Shop on Queen Street in Hamilton.

“As a designer I’ve always loved colorful textiles and home décor. A decorative pillow or boldly printed curtain has the ability to not only change the look of a room but also to transform its mood,” said Oneka Benn Schwartz.

“I’ve admired the originality of The Island Shop and how its unique pieces evoke an instant feeling of beauty and elegance. By collaborating on this collection we hope to instill a feeling of sophistication without loosing that quintessential Island feel.”

The collection incorporates ikats and geometrics prints with pops of color. Bright contrasting piping adds an eclectic blend designed to mix and match. Color palettes range from preppy Royal blue and Kelly green to a whimsical take on blacks and whites.

Barbara Finsness, artist and owner of The Island Shop, said, “I am excited to introduce Oneka and have her work with me in bringing additional energy, vibrancy and whimsy to our Island Shop collections.

“In addition to the new direction she is offering, I look forward to her collaboration and skill in creating new products featuring my own fabrics. Besides showcasing Oneka, this temporary show will also offer me the opportunity to touch base with my customers, to ascertain new products they would like to see.”

Oneka Benn Schwartz studied Textile/Surface design at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. In 1999, after working in Manhattan’s Garment District, she ventured out to start her own home furnishings line of custom window treatments and bedding.

“Making things by hand has always given me a great sense of accomplishment. I love to bring a client’s vision to life,” she said.

Growing up in a home with a grandmother who was a tailor and patternmaker, it was a natural progression to begin sewing her own products, and a chance meeting with Barbara Finsness sparked a conversation, which has now led to the new collection, Oneka Benn for Barbara Finsness The Island Shop.
