5K Run Raises $12,738 For Tomorrow’s Voices

November 19, 2014

The first annual RUBiS Warwick Gas Station Autism Awareness 5k walk/run raised almost $13,000 for Tomorrow’s Voices, which helps to provide services to children on the autism spectrum.

David Rose, CEO of RUBiS Energy Bermuda, said: “RUBiS Energy Bermuda are pleased to have played a major role in raising autism awareness by covering all of the operating expenses for the first annual RUBiS Warwick Gas Station Autism Awareness 5k walk/run benefitting Tomorrow’s Voices [Bermuda Autism’s Early Intervention Centre].

“We were happy to do this so that all of the funds raised by the event could be donated to Tomorrow’s Voices, and we are delighted that the event raised a total of $12,738.25.

“Autism is a lifelong disease that impairs a person’s ability to communicate both verbally and non-verbally, and affects their ability to interact with others.

“Tomorrow’s Voices’ overall goal is to provide autistic children between the ages of 2 and 21 with the skills to assist with their inclusion into their neighborhood schools or communities with minimal support and to provide them with a better quality of life through intervention and as such, it is a charity that we are proud to have been able to help.”

RUBiS Tomorrow's Voices Donation

Thea Furbert, Co-Founder and Board Chair of Tomorrow’s Voices commented, “We are extremely thankful to be receiving this donation from RUBiS Warwick Gas Station’s 1st Annual Autism Awareness Walk.

“This generous donation will assist Tomorrow’s Voices in reaching our goal of providing the much needed services for those children and their families struggling with autism and other developmental disabilities.”

Teddy Terceira, RUBiS Warwick Gas Station Manager remarked, “We were looking for a good way to give back to the community which supports us day-in and day-out.

“Hosting the 5k fun walk/run was a great way to get a large crowd with visible participation so we could really draw some attention to autism awareness. It was especially satisfying to be able to benefit little Eleah, a close neighbor of ours.”

“We hope to grow the event in the future and have a very broad impact on Autism in Bermuda.”

Mr. Jermaine Simons, Sales Manager at RUBiS added, “Autism is a debilitating disease that unfortunately affects young children. Tomorrow’s Voices plays an important role in providing hands-on Applied Behaviour Analysis and Verbal Behaviour therapy services to children on the autism spectrum. Autism awareness is a cause that RUBiS is proud to be associated with and will continue to support.”
