16-Yr-Old Girl Denies Assaulting Fellow Student

Appearing in court this morning [Dec 4], sixteen year-old Shimea Irving, dressed in her school uniform, elected to be tried in Magistrates Court and then plead not guilty to unlawfully assaulting another student in an increased Penalty Zone, namely, the Berkeley Institute.

The charge alleged that the alleged assault took place at the school on 28 May 2014. Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo set bail at $2,000 and, because Ms Irving is not yet an adult, required that she have a Surety. The Magistrate also ordered that she return to Court on 18 December for Mention.

    More and more my heart is just broken these days with stories coming out about our little sisters alleged violent behaviours. When I was fighting the good fight for women’s rights and equality I sure wasn’t thinking of this sort of equality.

    Maybe us older sisters need to re-group and see how we can help.
