Preparations Will “Boost Economic Recovery”

December 2, 2014

The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son today offered its congratulations to the Government of Bermuda and the Bermuda Tourism Authority for staging Bermuda’s successful bid for the 35th America’s Cup.

Brendan McDonagh, Butterfield’s Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, said, “Today’s announcement by the ACEA that Bermuda will be the host venue for the 2017 America’s Cup could not have come at a better time for the country.

“The preparations for staging the race and qualifying events will boost economic recovery by creating jobs in construction, hospitality, real estate and many other areas.

“The media coverage associated with the America’s Cup will provide worldwide exposure for the island as a sailing venue and luxury vacation destination, which should provide a boon to tourism for years to come,” added Mr. McDonagh.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors and all of us at the Bank, our congratulations and thanks go out to everyone involved in Bermuda’s bid.”

Michael Collins, Butterfield’s Senior Executive Vice President – Bermuda, said, “This is a great day for Bermuda and Bermudians. The 2017 America’s Cup—and the lead-up to it—will provide us with a rare opportunity to showcase Bermuda’s natural beauty, sophisticated business infrastructure and logistical know-how to millions of people around the globe.

“As a community, we have a massive task ahead of us to prepare the island for the global spotlight, and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pull together to show the world what we can do.

“The team at Butterfield is looking forward to being part of the preparations and supporting a successful America’s Cup in 2017.”

I SECOND THIS MOTION . Today is a great day for Bermuda and Bermudians, if done right and with the great efforts and support from Residents and the Bermuda Government i think this would be a very successful event and allow better and greater oppertunities in the future. If we as Bermudians can come to gether after 2 natural disasters that stroke the island and get a beautiful review and positive outlook on International news “WORLDWIDE”, i think we can get together pick up our faces and do what we do best Smile, Work hard together and do it for the “VINE”. We all want to make money, this is the time to get in and work together. Stop the violence and make this paper bruh.

We must use this opportunity to the fullest to get as many people involved as possible – and I don’t mean only
one side of Bermuda either ! — to organise this event were going to need hundreds of people involed .
The Race Officials need to get this going now – there is no shortage of People – they still have to figure out how many people is needed – there is still quite a few out there looking for work.
OK – WE got the Big Cahona now lets make sure its the best one ever! — lets go Bermuda!
