PLP To Host Town Hall Meeting On Gaming

December 9, 2014

[Updated] The PLP’s Constituency 33 Branch will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting on gaming on Thursday [Dec 11] starting at 7.00pm  at the Somers Isles Lodge.

The PLP said, “This meeting is intended to inform Constituency 33 voters of the contents of the Government’s Gaming Bill and to gain constituents’ perspective on this critical issue.

Constituency 33 MP Jamahl Simmons said, “Gaming represents a huge step for Bermuda and while Bermudians have been denied the opportunity to express their will through a gaming referendum, we want to ensure that the people of Sandys South have the chance to express themselves, prior to the vote in Parliament.”

“While I personally support gaming for Bermuda, my view on this matter is secondary to the collective view of the people I represent. Therefore, I encourage constituents to attend this town hall meeting and let your voices be heard,” concluded Mr. Simmons.

A PLP spokesperson said, “While this meeting is intended to give the voters of Constituency 33 a voice on this critical issue, all are welcome to attend.”

  4. aceboy says:

I’m sure all the “winners” down at the shop on Court Street support gaming.

Are the people in 33 making a moral decision on gaming in general? Or just the gaming that the leader of the opposition is not financially involved in?

  5. steve says:

Mr Simmons stated his personal view and/but recognizes he must represent the sentiment of his constituents.
I suggest we save criticism for when it really moves us otherwise we just water down our opinion and our words become predictable with little or no effect.

PLP: When are you holding a town hall meeting on Port Royal?

  7. LOL (Original TM*) says:

I thought the PLP was all for gaming, guess their supporters only support ideas if the PLP are the ones implementing them.. why would that be……..

    LOL

More talk talk talk for more talk talk talk. The gaming ship sailed many years ago. Bermuda was in a meeting at the time talking about gaming & did not see it go without them.
