People’s Campaign November Public Evaluation

December 22, 2014

The People’s Campaign released their Public Evaluation for the month of November, which seeks to assess the Government and the Opposition through public evaluations.

Speaking on the Auditor General’s report about the Port Royal cost overruns, the People’s Campaign said, “Prudent management of the people’s finances is one of government’s key responsibilities.

“The People’s Campaign implores the Public Accounts Committee [PAC] to examine, consider and report on this Auditor General’s report in a timely manner.”

On the planned deal with Canadian Commercial Corporation [CCC] to redevelop our airport, the People’s Campaign said, “We have concerns that this deal may equate to privatisation which contravenes the spirit of the OBA’s recent promise to put the Public Bodies Reform Act on hold.

“In addition, we have concerns about both the lack of transparency and the failure of our government to follow internationally accepted tendering practices.

Addressing the November 14th incident which saw OBA MPs walk out of the House to protest comments allegedly made by Opposition Leader Marc Bean, the People’s Campaign said they “implore those that have been elected to serve the people of Bermuda to conduct themselves in a manner that is reflective of the responsibility bestowed on them as leaders and as agents of the people.”

Well start marching on de Port Royal scandal! I will be der!

    • Coffee says:

Stay tuned for the America’s Cup scandal . The OBA have already committed $45 million more than the total San Francisco splashed out AND the latter had a $10 million loss when the AC sail away . So get your Docksiders ready to hit the deck !

      • Justin says:

Ya, because Grant Gibbons and Michael Dunkley could really use a few more bucks… Lol

      • jt says:

        You’d love to see it.

      • Lois Fredick says:

I see you can’t see past your nose. The overall effect on the ecomony will be huge. To suggest otherwise is purely sourness on your part. You yourself will benefit too.

      • Creamy says:

And it generated $550m of additional economic activity for the city.

      • Barracuda says:

Bitter Coffee , sour grapes , nothing good to say , transparent agenda , merry Christmas Grinch .

      • James Rego says:

This is terrible news for the PLP, success from OBA initiatives, thousands back to work, economy booming, tell me it isn’t so!

  2. Sky Pilot says:

    truth hurts huh?

  3. Sandgrownan says:

Really? Who gives a **** about “The People’s Campaign”?

    • Sideliner says:

Apparently the OBA, and more specifically the Premier, gives a **** about the People’s Campaign and what they have to say.

You do remember the promises made by Premier Dunkley to the People’s Campaign after private meetings over immigration, right?

And you do recall the private talks surrounding the Public Bodies Reform Act, right?

How about the concerns expressed by the People’s Campaign regarding banking? You did read the OBA’s Throne Speech, right?

Did you read last month’s People’s Campaign newsletter that specifically addressed concerns surrounding the BEV work permit proposal? You will note that shortly afterwards, Minister Fahy withdrew this proposal expressing the SAME concerns that were highlighted by the People’s Campaign

Premier Dunkley understands the political importance of staying connected to a group such as the People’s Campaign. And if you are pay attention, you will see how much he cares. You’d be wise to be a tad more observant

      • Sandgrownan says:

The PC is a quasi-political organisation trying to lend some respectibility to the hitherto discredited PLP and BIU. It’s an exercise in free speech, that we all shpuld applaud, but make no mistake, there is no “campaign”, no grass roots organisation, no membership. It’s grandstanding.

  4. Jeremy Deacon says:

The PAC needs to make sure it allows press and public into its meeting if they decide to investigate the Port Royal fiasco. It is public money that appears to have been misspent – it is the public’s right to know what happened.

  5. Dude says:

these lot are just a lot of tea baggers. DREBs. Moth balls. who cares what gibberish they spout off every month.

  6. aceboy says:

The Chairman of the PAC is the shadow finance minister and the PC know full well he will do everything in his power to prevent any nasty stuff coming to light.

The PC is simply an extension of the PLP and the BIU.

  7. North Rock says:

I just get atwitter with excitement when these finely crafted assesments come from the peoples campaign….they are so insightful and devoid of political rhetoric and so intellectually stimulating !! Why do we have to wait so long for them to come out…I don’t think I will be able to hold the excitement in if I have to wait almost all the way into January…

Who are these scholars….????Where have they been ????

  8. Malachi says:

I’m still trying to figure out why anyone thinks that the opinion of this so-called “People’s Campaign” is relevant!

    • Sideliner says:

  9. BTCHECKER says:

Hang on – credit where credit is due there is at least a semblance of trying to get balance. And many of the points they raise are good ones.

This is far more progressive than Betty Trump/Chris and should be encouraged.

At least they are making an effort – you can still disagree with what they are saying

    • Tolerate says:

Yes, you are correct. However, what many will see is the PC’s attempt to appear non-politically biased, yet marches and chants have been in direct support of the PLP? But they are the “PEOPLES” campaign? Who PEOPLE?
I agree good questions; however they shot themselves in the foot in their early days. People will not take you serious if you display outright signs of deceit. Also it does not help when one of the spokesman makes nasty comments to Religious leaders of our country than attempts to scold Members of the House with words of “propoer conduct”.
      Hilarious.

      • BT CHeCKeR says:

I know they are PLP. I’m saying I prefer this way to communicate over chris famous ignorance or Marc bean nastiness.

  10. CJ says:

Bell bottoms, disco, leisure suits, goose neck handlebars, PLP.

All embarrassing things from our past that we never want to see again.

  11. Terry says:

CJ….You must be a youngster or a pissed off old fool.

I was born before all of the above and they worked well and life was pretty good.
The PLP played no role in what you stated except being a great ‘Opposition’.

    Shalom.

    The Communist Party.
