Police: “If You See Something Say Something”

December 12, 2014

The presence of person[s] on a motorcycle ‘posted up’ in a low lit or secluded area, the motorcycle’s license plate missing up and individuals acting suspiciously on motorcycles most likely wearing dark coloured clothing with their faces covered, are some of the circumstances which “should arouse suspicion,” the police said.

The police said we have “seen a resurgence of firearm related incidents,” adding that “if you encounter any of the mentioned circumstances, simply call 911 immediately and report what is taking place, giving as much information as possible – Do not attempt to confront these individuals.”

This police statement follows after a raft of shootings in the last few weeks; two shootings on Dec. 9th [link], the murder of Prince Edness on Dec 7th [link], a shooting on Dec 3rd in Warwick [link], a shooting in Pembroke on Nov 13th [link], a shooting in Sandys in Nov 11th which saw four men injured [link], and another shooting on that same day in Devonshire [link].

Over the last few months the Bermuda Police Service has been resolute in our message ‘if you see something say something.’ This is a means to empower residents across the island to take action in their community.

In recent days, we have seen a resurgence of firearm related incidents. Specific circumstances which should arouse suspicion are:

  • The presence of one or two persons on a motorcycle ‘posted up’ or parked in a yard or neighbourhood in a low lit or secluded area, most likely with the engine still running. In addition, the motorcycle’s license plate may be missing or covered up.
  • Individuals acting suspiciously on motorcycles – perhaps riding in a dangerous manner, most likely wearing dark coloured clothing with their faces covered, or wearing a helmet with a dark visor.

Members of the public are reminded that your safety is the most important factor.

Do not put yourself or your family in harm’s way. Instead, if you encounter any of the mentioned circumstances, simply call 911 immediately and report what is taking place, giving as much information as possible – Do not attempt to confront these individuals.

Once again the Bermuda Police Service would like to thank those persons who have so far assisted detectives investigating these firearm related incidents.

Anyone with any information about any of the recent firearm incidents is encouraged to contact the main police number at 295-0011, or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
