Jr National Squash Championships Concludes
The Digicel Junior National Squash Championships 2014 came to an end at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association Club. In a Under 19 Boys battle, the defending champion Nazhir Smith came from 2 – 1 down to defeat Dyland Mouldoon in a five setter that also needed two tie-breaks.
Smith won the first set 11-7, but Muldoon with a never say die attitude fought back to win the second set 11-5, Muldoon would then catch a few breaks in taking a 2 – 1 lead when he won the third set 11-8, Smith was able to dig deep and take the fourth set needing a tie-breaker to do so winning 12-10.
The fifth and final set was a see-saw battle, which Smith was leading 10-7, but Muldoon would claw back to make it 10-10, Muldoon, would take a lead of 11-10, but Smith would hold his nerve and win the next point to level things at 11-11.
Muldoon would win the next points to make it 12-11, but Smith would once again win the next point to level the score at 12-12, Smith would then win the next to points to close out the match and be crowned the Under 19 Boy’s Champion.
The Girls Under 19 Title was won by the defending champion Emma Keane she defeated Susanna Armano in straight sets 11-5, 11-2, 11-5. Although the score line makes the game look onesided, Armono was able to play some tough rallies with Keane. Armano, won the first two points of game one and again in game three, she just could not sustain the play of Keane as Keane was crowned the Girls Under 19 Champion.
