December 30, 2014

The Premier Development Tournament continued recently, with local football clubs vying for a spot in the Christmas Tournament Final. When the semi-finals were said and done, it was the Southampton Rangers and the Devonshire Colts that advanced.

Devonshire Colts 2 – PHC Zebras 1

At the BAA Field, a spot in the Premier Development League Christmas Tournament Final was up for grabs, with Devonshire Colts taking the lead in the 31st minute when Eli Smith found the back of the net.

The PHC Zebras would waste several chances for the remainder of the first half as the Devonshire Colts would take the 1 – 0 lead into the break.

In the second half, the PHC Zebras controlled much of the play but could not find the target until the 79th minute when Ryan Hassell scored; Hassell was on hand to follow up a free kick that Devonshire Colts goalkeeper Chejon Berkeley failed to hold onto.

Just when most thought the match was going to be decided on by kicks from the penalty mark, Devonshire Colts got the winner when a break down the left saw the ball played into the middle.

The pass found Ellington Weldon Jr, who calmly placed the ball past a helpless Treaz Place in the 90th minute to earn the Devonshire Colts a place in the Final.

Southampton Rangers 2 – North Village Rams 1

A spot in the final was also up for grabs in the PDL Christmas Semi-Final between the Southampton Rangers and the North Village Rams.

Southampton Rangers went in front in the 24th minute when Shannon Burchall scored, and they would take the 1 – 0 lead to the break.

In the 64th minute, the Southampton Rangers would double their lead when Shaki Swan found the back of the net.

The North Village Rams would, however, pull within one when Kion Knights scored four minutes later, but with no further goals the Southampton Rangers would advance to the Premier Development League Final with a 2-1 win.
