January 16, 2015

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Jan 16], a 35-year-old man admitted stealing a $20 bottle of vodka from a supermarket last year.

Dimitri Robinson pleaded guilty to stealing a $20 bottle of Aristocrat vodka from Lindo’s Warwick supermarket on 14th January 2014.

The Prosecutor told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that on the store’s CCTV system, shop staff had seen Mr Robinson pocket the bottle of vodka and head for the door. Shop staff accosted Mr Robinson, there was a struggle, and Mr Robinson was said to have told shop staff,”OK. Just take it back.”

Police were called, Mr Robinson was arrested and later admitted the theft.

In Court this morning, Mr Robinson told the Magistrate: “I need help. I am an alcoholic. This is the first time that I have asked the Court for help. I drink every day.”

The Magistrate adjourned the matter to later this month and granted Mr Robinson $1,000 bail.
