Sandra DeSilva Appointed New TLF Board Chair

sandra desilvaThe Technology Leadership Forum [TLF], a Bermuda Registered Charity, which assists in the development of young Bermudians who are embarking on careers in Information and Communications Technology, today [Jan 22] announced the appointment of Ms. Sandra DeSilva as Chair of its Board of Directors, and who takes over from Mr. Dion Tucker, the charity’s Chair for the last seven years.

A spokesperson said, “Sandra brings with her a wealth of experience from the technology industry. She is the founder, Managing Director and Chief Software Architect at Nova, a Bermuda based software engineering company which provides bespoke development to the global re/insurance and capital markets industry.

“Throughout her career Sandra has been a pioneer for innovation in software development and for identifying and developing market opportunities. Holding a degree in Computer Science, Ms. DeSilva built and architected several successful enterprise-level software systems and has worked with global billion-dollar reinsurance start-ups as well as a Silicon-Valley startup in bringing ideas from concept to market-execution.

“Sandra is an active advocate for technology advancement and has been heavily involved with the local technology industry. She is the founder and president of the Bermuda .NET User Group which is a not for profit organization providing free education and networking for the software engineering community whose scope exceed beyond .NET into alternative technologies.

“She is an executive council member at the Bermuda Insurance Institute and part of the initial core organizing committee for the Bermuda Insurance Institute. Sandra is also fully engaged in assisting Bermuda’s sustainability and business development growth by working with the Bermuda Government via the ECAB, GIS and as a past council member at the National Training Board.

“Sandra is a passionate and loyal supporter of Bermuda’s technology advancement and believes the island is ripe with intellectual capital that with the right education, training and collaboration will be the driving force behind the industry’s attraction and ultimate success.

“On behalf of the entire TLF Board, Coral Wells, the Programme Coordinator expressed the Boards gratitude to Mr. Tucker for his invaluable contributions to the growth and success of the organization over his seven year term.”

In his exit from the helm, Mr. Tucker spoke of his experience with the TLF: “I’ve had the pleasure and privilege to chair the Technology Leadership Forum for the last seven years. It has been very rewarding working alongside a team of energetic and enthusiastic professionals who gave unselfishly and tirelessly to ensure the organization is a success. While we always talk about how much students benefit from the TLF program, interacting with the students throughout the years has enriched me both personally and professionally.”

The TLF graciously welcome Sandra DeSilva aboard and look forward to continued success under her leadership. On her appointment to Chair of the TLF Sandra said: “I am honored to be working with the next generation of technology enthusiasts and trust they will be guided by our industry professionals dedicating their expertise to the TLF program in our pursuit to encourage these students to excellence.”
