“Hell Of The North Shore” Cyclo-Cross Race

Char/Pi Event Productions is getting set to host a cyclo-cross race on January 4, 2015 at Shelly Bay Park, with all types of bikes welcome to take part.

The Hell of the North Shore Cyclo-Cross Race will feature categories including PeeWee: 5 and under, Youth I: ages 6-8, Youth II: ages 9-12, Junior: ages 13-18, Senior: ages 19-39, and Masters: age 40 and over.

Registration costs $20 for Seniors and Masters and $10 for Juniors, with no cost for Youth and PeeWee. Entry includes pizza and beverages after the race, along with prizes, with all proceeds to go to Bermuda Bicycle Association [BBA] development programs.

Participants are encouraged to wear costumes.

Registration can be completed between 10.00am and 12.00pm on January 3 at KPMG, Crown House, on Par-la-Ville Road in Hamilton, or on race day, 30 minutes before each race.

The race schedule will see PeeWees begin their single lap at 9.45am, with Youth I beginning at 10.00am and Youth II beginning at 10:20am. Juniors will get underway at 10.30am, followed by novice Seniors and Masters at 11.20am and elite Seniors and Masters at 12.10pm.

The BBA newsletter said, “Jason Piney and Charles Thresh have organised a cyclo-cross race for January 4 at Shelly Bay Field. Racing will start at 9:45 and continue all morning.

“After the last race, there will be a pizza and beverages [included in race registration fee] and social time to brag about the results. Racing will be open to all sorts of bikes, from road bikes to ‘cross bikes and those who prefer the wide rubber of a mountain bike.

“The organizers have promised numerous hazards and obstacles, including run-ups, barricades and sand.”
