Michael Weeks On World Day Of Social Justice

February 19, 2015

“The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party joins with the international community in observing World Day of Social Justice, on February 20, 2015,” Shadow Minister for Youth, Sports, Community and Culture Michael Weeks said today [Feb 19].

“With the OBA Budget set to be revealed on that same date, the goals of World Day of Social Justice; the elimination of poverty, ending social exclusion, expanding gender equity and the promotion of full, quality employment for all, are of significant importance.

“The PLP’s position is that Bermudians must be empowered to pursue their dreams, strive to reach their potential and contribute to our society, and that the government’s role is remove impediments when required and provide support where needed.

“We encourage all Bermudians to reflect upon the goals of World Day of Social Justice and begin to focus on what each of us can do to expand opportunity, inclusion and fairness throughout the island.”

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 20 February as World Day of Social Justice in 2007, saying that “social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and among nations.”
