February 19, 2015

Double gold medalist from last summer’s Commonwealth Games David Palmer has confirmed he will take part in the 2015 Randall & Quilter Legends of Squash event to be held April 21-25, 2015 at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association.

David Palmer of Australia became the Legends of Squash Champion 2014 in Bermuda beating an array of legends including former World Champion Thierry Lincou of France in a pulsating five set final.

Palmer, now based in Florida and running the David Palmer Squash Academy says he is excited to return to the island after many visits over the years, saying: “The chance to play again in Bermuda is always a treat for me and my family. Playing in front of packed crowds and staying at Coral Beach Club is definitely one of my favorite events of the year”

Six former World Number Ones including legendary rivals Peter Nicol and Jonathon Power – who will square off against each other on the first night – are once again heading to Bermuda. Island Squash fans will also get the chance to see one of the world’s hardest hitters return, John White, who has been clocked striking the ball regularly at 176mph!

A host of other Legends make up the 8-man draw including England’s Lee Beachill and Simon Parke, and Bermuda’s own former World #63 and five-time Commonwealth Games athlete Nicholas Kyme. Kyme has a massive task taking on David Palmer on opening night, Peter Nicol on night two and then Jonathon Power on the third night.

Kyme commented: “As I always say, every time I have the opportunity to play these guys, it’s an honor and pleasure to get on court with truly legendary players like Palmer, Nicol & Power. They have won everything in the game, been role models for many players around the world, and I am just happy to get the chance to be on the court with them”.

BSRA Director of Squash Patrick Foster said, “Aside from the amazing matches the legends will play each night, they are also here working with young people at all levels of the game. The players will be getting on court with kids from school groups as well as players totally new to the game of squash.

“They will also be spending time with Bermuda’s junior national squad players in what is an amazing opportunity to learn for all involved. It would be a treat to get coaching from one World Champion, but to be part of a training session with eight legends of this caliber is truly special”.

The Randall & Quilter Legends of Squash will be held entirely at the BSRA, Devonshire with matches starting each night from 6pm. The 8-man draw is split into 2 groups of 4 playing round robin format over 3 days, April 22-24. The winners of the two groups will compete in the Legends finals to be held Saturday April 25.

Tickets are available only at the BSRA. Visit the official Randall & Quilter Legends of Squash website for all event information.
