Suspect & Resident Stabbed During Burglary

[Updated] Police responded to the Middle Road, Southampton area tonight [Feb 3] after some form of altercation, resulting in at least one person being stabbed and taken to hospital.

Multiple police vehicles have attended the scene along with two ambulances and the police forensic unit. Details are limited at this time, however we will update with official information as able.

Update 11.46pm: Police spokesperson Robin Simmons said, “Around 9:10pm on Tuesday, February 3rd first responders were dispatched to a reported burglary at a Middle Road, Southampton residence located off the Railway Trail in the Granaway Heights area‎.

“It appears that an altercation took place outside the premises between an alleged male intruder and two male residents of the home, resulting in the suspect and one of the residents sustaining stab wounds.

“Both injured parties were taken to hospital via separate ambulances for treatment. Initial information suggests that the suspect’s injuries are more serious.

“An investigation into this incident is ongoing and any witnesses or persons with information should contact the main police telephone number 295-0011 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.”

Update 12.23pm Feb 4: Audio statement from Police spokesperson Robin Simmons.

Update Feb 4, 6.59am: A police spokesperson said, “The male suspect’s injuries do not appear to be as serious as initially thought and are not believed to be life threatening.

“Likewise the injuries to the male Southampton resident involved in this incident are also not believed to be life threatening at this time. More details on the conditions of both men are expected later today.”

Update Feb 4, 12.05pm: A police spokesperson said, “At last check a teenaged burglary suspect was recovering in stable condition on a general ward at the hospital.

“The 18-year-old Sandys parish male received stab wounds to the torso and leg in an altercation outside a Middle Road, Southampton residence Tuesday night.

“It has since been confirmed that both residents involved in this incident outside their home were also injured. However the 50-year-old Southampton man and his son, a 24-year-old Southampton man, were treated at the hospital and later discharged.

“Investigators continue to appeal for any witnesses or persons with information regarding this matter to contact the Criminal Investigation Unit on the main police telephone number 295-0011 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.”

      You need a full ER if you’ve been stabbed, not an urgent care centre. It wouldn’t have helped in this case.

    good I bet they wont break in that house anymore. I just hope the victim is ok. As for the burgular I hope he has scars to remind him of what he done and to know he chose the wrong house. Amen to the people for protecting whats theirs.

    It is really time that our homes had bars to the windows and maybe even at the doors like other jurisdictions. We need not act like this is Paradise Island any more. The main thing a person wants, is to feel safe in their home.

      I don’t know if this is going to be a trend (burglar bars), but when you’re the victim of a home invasion, these are the questions you’re going to face – you’re going to want to improve security in some shape or form.
