Bus Cancellations To Continue Over Weekend

March 6, 2015

The cancellation of bus runs is set to continue over the weekend, with the Department of Public Transportation providing the list of bus service cancellations for Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8.

The cancellations have been an ongoing issue lately, with Transport Minister Shawn Crockwell previously explaining that, “The Department of Public Transport currently has 10 bus operators who are out on long term sick leave and the service has been further impacted by operators out sick during this cold and flu season. In addition, the department has implemented a ban on overtime and the combination of these factors is impacting the scheduling of bus runs.”

The list, as provided by the Department, is below:

    This is piss poor.
Just because 10 people are out on long term means nothing except they are down 10 people.
    flu and Cold season?
    Hello…..

    All about money.

Name me a business that closes, reduces above because of this.

    Vegatables
    Fish
    Gas
    Toilet paper

I say fire all the dead weight drivers and replace them with new ones. The recession and mismanagement of the country’s finances has bread a new work ethic by those that are/were unemployed. New drivers will turn around the behaviours of the DPT (if they’re thoughts aren’t tainted by previous staff) and likely embrace the new schedule.

It’s the weekend. We shoulda known.

  4. Y-Gurl says:

Totally agree, there’s a heap of dead wood in that Department, it’s not a skilled job (or minimally) in fact I’m not sure reading and writing is a requirement given most of them blast thru the STOP sign at the top of Washington Street and there’s plenty of good and reliable Bermudains that can do that job.

  5. Sky Pilot says:

The Bus Service needs to be made Private and the biu stranglehold smashed!
ALL existing drivers that do their job correctly would have nothing to fear and everything to gain.

Long term sick are not capable of working so they need to be let go,Fired if need be.

    • Wise Up says:

@ Sky Pilot Long term sick are not capable of working so they need to let go, Fired if need be. Well I sure hope you never need to be off from work with an illness or off island for treatment, because wether you believe it or not they are legitimately sick and Will be capable of returning to work! Empty barrels make the most noise!

  6. Truth is killin' me... says:

Someone whose been out of work for a year or two will gladly do their job without all this nonsense!

  7. Terry says:

    Finally we agree Raw.
    Shalom.

  8. really sad says:

do the idiots have to provide a sick note from a LEGAL Dr. or don’t the bosses even know who they what are –sad really really sad –

    • mj says:

do we have to call workes idiots coz the management are not capable of managing.. Lots of people are not well in Bermuda for various reasons and it takes skills to drive the bus and have all those people in your charge. Why not lift the over time ban and take part of mr. Hansburys salary to finance the overtime, seeing that tourism is about transporting people from here to there..How can a tourism product work without proper transportation, especially on the heels of the upcoming new season!Instead of blaming drivers who are in contact with a variety of people daily which can be stressful within itself, lets look at what the problem is, THE OVERTIME BAN.

  9. Church Lady says:

Goodness gracious me, this tummy bug must be so bad and i feel for these brave soldiers who drive our buses.

You people who are slagging these heroes off should respect these remarkable men and women.

These people are standouts in our community and true heroes of the hour.

Where would we be without are brave bus drivers I ask you?

I have some Vicks Vapour rub if any of these poorly drivers would like it.

    So proud of you…

    • me says:

Church Lady, I can see you don’t take the bus, because you have not seen how rude some drivers can be to our visitors.

  10. aceboy says:

How did the “time and one half” meeting go?

Talk about an admission that that is what this whole thing is about….geesh.

Keep it up you bozos. Soon you will be worried about regular time let alone “time and one half”.

  11. C James says:

So we have crap taxi service, crap bus service, no car rentals, no night life and we are in the tourism business.

What is the next awful decision for Bermuda?
