25 Yr Old Given $100,000 Bail On Cash Charge

March 23, 2015

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Mar 23], a 25 year old foreign national re-appeared on charges he allegedly possessed some $826,000 of cash knowing it to be the proceeds of crime

Having not satisfied all bail conditions, and therefore still in custody, Yeshayahu Zirkind – described as an Israeli-American who resides in Xidao, China — had one of his previous $100,000 bail conditions altered.

Mr Zirkind is facing the indictable charge of possessing over $826,000 of cash knowing it to be the proceeds of crime. At his first appearance last week, Mr Zirkund had not been required to plead because the matter can only be dealt with in Supreme Court. Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Cindy Clarke had told the Magistrate that the majority of the cash was in Bermuda dollars.

This morning, Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ruled that Zirkind’s bail was to remain at $100,000 but now without the requirement for a surety.

The additional remaining conditions are that Zirkind must surrender all travel documents; not leave this jurisdiction; must report his address to Police; and must report to Hamilton Police Station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; remained as before.

However, if he makes bail, Zirkind must now also wear an EMD and stay at the guesthouse that he gave as his tentative address if he was freed on bail. The Magistrate also ordered that Mr Zirkind’s credit cards should be released to him.

Mr Zirkind must return for Mention on 30th March 2015.
