Despite rain, wind, gales, and Portuguese Man of War on the beaches on Saturday [Mar 28], the Bermuda Beach Art Festival went ahead, with 16 of 22 entrants competing across the island, with the top prize – Best Overall – going to La Garza, Tara Cassidy for her depiction of a washed up whale.

Guest beach artist Tony Plant, from Cornwall, England, was on hand at Horseshoe Bay Beach creating his signature piece for Bermuda and the Festival, as were the producers of the Beach Art Festival, Nicky Gurret and Lynne Matcham, along with six other entrants.

“We started at 9.00am and the weather wasn’t too bad. By 10.30am we were soaked and sand was flying everywhere,” said Nicky Gurret, while  Lynne Matcham added, ““Beach artists are stalwarts. We were so thrilled to see everyone out, determined to get their entry complete and sent in.”

This is great event for both locals and visitors to our beautiful shores It is so nice to see all of the beautiful creations. With the weather being so unpredictable this time of the year, maybe the organizers should give some consideration to moving the date of this event to a time of the year when more people would be inclined to venture to the beaches to participate and/or to just go check out the entries.
