Mar 18: School Reorganization Public Meeting

March 17, 2015

The Ministry of Education will host a public meeting regarding public school reorganization on Wednesday, 18 March at CedarBridge Academy. This is the final meeting before the consultation period ends on Friday, 20 March.

The Ministry has held meetings with PTAs, principals and teachers to discuss whether there is a need for reorganization of Government preschools and primary schools.

Minister of Education Wayne Scott. stated, “I believe the consideration of school consolidation provides the Ministry of Education with an opportunity to build a more effective, efficient learning environment for our students’ academic achievement.

“I understand that any decisions related to reorganizing the public school system tend to be difficult ones, however, any decision made by the Ministry in this regard, will always be measured against the standard of putting Bermuda’s children first. However, no decision has yet been made on whether schools will be closed.”

A spokesperson said, “The Ministry will give a presentation that outlines what questions and concerns have been raised thus far in consultation meetings by parents and teachers, demographic trends such as a declining birthrate and student enrollment at preschool and primary levels.

“The meeting will take place at CedarBridge Academy beginning at 6:30 p.m.

“The consultation paper is posted on the Ministry website —www.moed.bm. The general public is reminded that the deadline for submitting consultations is Friday, March 20th 2015. Consultations can be submitted via email toeducationconsultation@moed.bm or submitted directly to the Ministry of Education.”
