2 Hour Video: Diversity in Leadership Symposium

As guests of Menspeak, the men of Alpha Phi Alpha ‎Fraternity, Inc., [Epsilon Theta Lambda Chapter] held their annual symposium entitled “Diversity in Leadership” on Monday [March 16] at the Bermuda College. The symposium focused on “Has the glass ceiling been broken or merely cracked? Re-examining gender/race/age/sexual orientation in regards to Leadership.”

A spokesperson said, “Topics for the evening covered a diverse landscape of leadership-focused questions in the areas of technology, business, spirituality, race, education, sexuality and a clutch of general questions open to the entire panel. Panelists included Mr. Craig Bridgewater, Ms. Kim Caines, Mr. Chen Foley, Mr. Jason Hayward, Mrs. Jessica Mello, Mr. Cordell Riley, Rev. Nicholas Tweed, Mr. Marlon Williams and Mrs. Christie Hunter-Arscott who joined us via video conference.

“The event was well attended with over 110 persons in attendance that interacted throughout the symposium via a live feed offering their thoughts and comments to the live discussion. This proved to be a great addition to this year’s symposium as moderator; Dwayne Caines was able to incorporate some of the comments as addendums [additions] to his original questions.

“We the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, Epsilon Theta Lambda Chapter would like to thank the panelists for their time and commitment and for bringing insight and prospective to this year’s symposium.

“We would also like to thank the audience for attending and listening to a topic which is becoming quite relevant not only globally but here in our island home Bermuda. Finally we would like to thank the Bermuda College and Menspeak for allowing us to partner with them once again and hosting a successful event.

“This [The leadership symposium] was the first of 3 events being held this week entitled, “Alpha Week”. We will be holding our Leadership Breakfast on Friday 20 March at St. Paul’s A.M.E. Church Hall where over 100 male high school students will interact with various professional men from our community.

“Alpha Week culminates with our annual Black & Gold Gala which will be held on Saturday 21 March at the Southampton Princess. Also, we have our annual Alpha Beautillion in June, where we have 7 young men representing their schools and families from across Bermuda’s high schools.”
