April 10, 2015

Mark Tankard, 45, appeared in yesterday’s [Apr 9] Magistrate’s Court where he was fined $500 after pleading guilty of providing a Security Guard service when he was not licenced to do so.

The DPP Prosecutor told Magistrate Archie Warner that in May 2014, police had observed that Mr Tankard  providing security at an event being held at the Prison Officer’s Association club in Sandy’s. A police check showed that Mr Tankard had no licence to do so.

Mr Tankard’s lawyer told the Magistrate that Mr Tankard had been working, for another security firm, but had left that firm in April 2014 and had surrendered his licence in April 2014. He told the Magistrate that Mr Tankard had received a late request for assistance from the event organizer.

The lawyer suggested a Conditional Discharge. However, Magistrate Warner said that as a person working in the industry, he knew or should have known the rules. The $500 fine was imposed.
