Sunday April 19th: “Good News” Spotlight

Some of the positive stories that emerged this week included news that BCF granted more than $1.4 million to non-profit organisations, Twilight Entertainment launched a new zip line ride, and Brown & Co. brightened Queen Street with local art.

Other good news stories included RUBiS donating fuel to St. John’s Ambulance, Dr. Katie Davis receiving $1.1 million in research grants, Clarien Scholarship opening for applications, Royal Caribbean announcing their new Anthem of the Seas will visit Bermuda in 2016, and Chef Michiko Campbell releasing two new flavours of his Chiko’s Smokey Rub.

In addition, Chef Marcus Samuelsson said that he’s “fallen in love with people and the culture” of the island, Bermuda ‘trash art’ was shown at the United Nations, Bermuda College gave back during ‘Spirit Week’ and Argus Group donated to The Family Centre.

On a sporting note, triathlete Flora Duffy won the Asia Pacific Championships in Australia, Nahki Wells scored for Huddersfield Town, Bermudian footballer Reggie Lambe scored a game-winning goal, and the Bermuda rugby U14 team defeated Yardley Court 40-5.

We also posted various community photo galleries, including photos of the 190 foot luxury yacht Illusion V visiting St. George’s, the arrival of the first cruise ship for the year in the east end, the Ludwig Cann 5k road race, the Easter Challenge track meet, the BBBFF Fitness Extravaganza, the Maxilous Salon open house, the Coral Beach tennis tournament, and the Butterfield Grand Prix.

We also posted photo galleries of the “Mini Ag Shows” that were held at various schools, including those at West Pembroke Primary, Northlands Primary, Mount Saint Agnes and the Clara Muhammad School, as well as photos of the Warwick Academy Year 8 Science Fair and International Day.

    All these wonderfull things happening to Bermuda at this time,Thank you OBA for starting us on a recovery.

    Thank you Bernews for highlighting the good news in Bermuda as well as keeping us informed of the not so good news and the down right tragic events of each day. Certainly on a Sunday it’s nice to reflect on something cheerful. And let’s not forget that a petition to change the law for same sex marriage garned almost two thousand votes in its first two days.
