Team Hurricane Holds Invitational Skills Camp

April 10, 2015

Following their successful foray into the Montreal Hoop Experience, Team Hurricane has returned to Bermuda and announced their upcoming Global Squad Invitational Skills Camp, to be held at Bermuda College today [Apr 10] through April 12.

The camp will be held at Bermuda College from 4.00pm through 6.30pm today, from 11.00am through 3.00pm tomorrow [Apr 11], and from 2.00pm through 6.00pm on Sunday [Apr 12].

A spokesperson said, “In keeping with its mission to provide the best competitive basketball experience for student-athletes who want to pursue a college education, Team Hurricane is aligning with Alexander Basketball Academy to hold the Team Hurricane-Global Squad Invitational Skills Camp.

“The fostering of such relationships serves to benefit Bermuda’s student-athletes as Team Hurricane works with other basketball academies experienced in bringing international players to U.S. college coaches.

“Alexander Basketball Academy [ABA] is a basketball training organization dedicated to helping athletes achieve their basketball related goals and reach the next level. For nearly 10 years ABA players have reached their highest potential by utilizing cutting-edge training techniques and a distinctive coaching style that stresses physical improvement, mental growth, and leadership. Alexander Basketball Academy is led by John Alexander.

“John played 4 years of college basketball at Washington College [Chestertown, Maryland] where he was captain and three time Defensive Player of the Year. Coach Alexander has been training high school, college, and pro players for nearly 10 years and has over 40 players who have made it to the NCAA level.

“Basketball is definitely a family affair as John’s brother, Joe Alexander, was a 2008 NBA 1st round draft pick of the Milwaukee Bucks out of West Virginia University.

“John Alexander is looking forward to this weekend’s camp. “Doug Reed and Kent Tacklyn of Team Hurricane have been gracious enough to allow the Global Squad coaches to run this invitational camp in order to scout, recruit, invited NCAA level talent from Bermuda to attend the Global Squad.”

“The main objective of the Team Hurricane – Global Squad Invitational Skills Camp will be to teach players how to develop their individual basketball skills whether on their own or with a small group of friends. Student-athletes will learn fundamental training techniques including proper footwork, speed, agility, ball-handling, and shooting.

“At camp’s end, players will have the tools necessary to train at a high level regardless of where they live or the facilities at their disposal. Just as importantly, the camp will seek to identify those student-athletes with the talent to play college basketball in the United States.”

“The Team Hurricane Global Squad Invitational Skills Camp will feature experienced coaches with many years of skill development, focused instruction with a high player to coach ratio, pro-style training with NBA caliber drills so athletes can practice like the pros, and competition including daily challenges with recognition for excellence.

“The camp will also feature offensive and defensive footwork with 1-on-1 offensive development, intense ball-handling drills, position specific skill work, form shooting to simulate game pressure, speed and agility training, game situational instruction, and ABA’s “Jump Program” Exercises in mental toughness.”

Founder and head coach Doug Reed said, “This program highlights the Team Hurricane Basketball Academy’s ability to provide a platform in which student-athletes can train, develop and reach their academic and athletic potential.”
